Actually, it's chemistry. No miracles, please.

So, when I make a good meal, it's a miracle?

honestly I think its refreshing the OP is comparing the episodes to the Books, although I didn't see any "it was done this way in the book" comparisons yet and I was kind of hoping for it because I'm curious what liberties the director took for the anime series.

I read the webnovel and so far the biggest change is that Aletta was introduced much earlier and iirc Kuro never becomes the second waitress, spoiler[the master's niece does much later]. Also, the novel relies in inner monologue, so a lot of info about the clients and worldbuilding get lost in the anime. For example, the novel explains the vampire couple's deal and why they thought they wouldn't like a beef dish, or how the merchant company from season 1 came to exist, or why half-elves get so much bad rep where Victoria is from.

@Violet Park

It is obvious that there are changes from the web novel to the published one. Kuro is the second waitress in the published novel series and the second character you mention in the spoiler is not present as of the end of volume 5 (English language edition).

Is it basically fantasy meets food porn? Yes. I don't have a problem with that. Season 1 was enjoyable for simply being a nice relaxing show that made you hungry. Season 2 is picking right up where it left off.

@Redbeard 101

There is also a modest amount of world building. In addition there is what is a bit thin to call a plot, more of a red thread connecting some of the more notable customers to the shop.

Of all the series I'm following this season, this is the one which feels the least discussion-worthy. That's why I especially appreciate the commentary on where in the publications each vignette is from. Interesting to see how dramatically changing the order of the stories doesn't affect the flow of this series.

The show is getting better with each episode. The food thing is the least interesting for a foody show. I guess it's because it's dealing with typical cuisine that only the otherworlders are not used to but which is fairly average to the rest of us. I do like the premise for the show, and feel more could be done with it. But it's laid back nature is alright, and it makes for light snacking.

I'm not sure how I feel about the anime changing Emilio from already being an apprentice to him having just met Lucia. The novel shows a lot more about the religions and how the dragons are seen, which is very interesting (and ironic given Kuro is there).

Concerning the scotch eggs, I've had them a couple of times before (they sometimes can be found at Ren Faires), so I was particularly interested to see how they would get portrayed here. They were finger food the times I've had them, so I found the fork-and-knife treatment to be a bit odd, but visually they looked the same as what I remember, down even to the dipping sauce on the side. I don't think they specified in the episode what kind of meat they're wrapped in, so I'm curious if that's mentioned in the source material; the ones I'm familiar with were wrapped in ground sausage.

I obviously can't speak to the trans experience, but is Emilio really representative? Is he mentioned to be biologically female in the novels? Because in the anime he comes across as your typical "feminine looking man who wants to become more manly so others won't mistake him as a girl" type that are pretty common in anime.

Seeing the Lamia's with their (quite large) eggs was an interesting bit of world building. Too bad that glimpse is probably all we'll get of it.

Maybe it's different in the novels, but I was a bit surprised by how quick Jazelle was brushed off when the owner found out. I thought he'd at least bring it up to the other guy how this long time customer would no longer be coming. It makes sense for Thomas to not really care, but I thought we'd get a bit more out of the owner.

He is indeed a cis guy who gets mistaken for a girl. I think they missed the mark with the design, he doesn't look feminine at all, just plain.
