-Laughs so hard the dead can hear it-
Oh god, Nomura and Nojima genuinely think this is profound and serious. This is a glorious trainwreck |

I can't view the English trailer for some reason so maybe it is different, but the Japanese one seemed pretty standard. What exactly is the problem with it? |

I'd say this leans more into the notorious first trailer, which was "mid 2000s angsty teenage Shadow the Hedgehog fan fiction" kinds of bad, with the word "Chaos" and variations of the phrase "I'm going to kill Chaos" uttered once every 2 to 5 seconds. This trailer...has none of that. Like, it's so devoid of everything that everyone was cringe-laughing at that it actually seems like a competent game now. |

Oh, it's not just the trailer. The demo has some stuff that is the silliest, poe-faced crap on the world. It has to be seen to be believed |

But yeah, I kinda thrown down by the fact that they are went too casual about the major plot spoilers by the end. spoiler[Because even by just introducting Jack as Garland it suddenly make a lot of sense where the story is suppose to go.] |

Hell yes. More Tsuda always good.
Dude didn't get voted second sexiest voice in Japan for nothin, and losing to Suwabe is no loss at all. Tsuda can make a stupid line like "I am here to kill Chaos" sound truly badass. I guess that's what great actors...do? I was morbidly curious when the first SoP demo dropped but after hearing who the real Jack is and playing the demo up until the last hour, I realised I genuinely like what I've seen, played and heard so far. Switching iconic classes on the fly, upgrading familiar skills, facing classic enemies and stealing their skills, and some really good Mizuta arrangements all lend themselves to an oddly authentic if initially shoehorned FF experience. Sort of reminds me of when Square put out mad little experiments like Vagrant Story and Einhander. I will take this over XV any day. How a game with four dudes in a car could be so pedestrian is beyond me. As for profundity, Squeenix managed to make what seemed a silly what if arena battler fit into the overall lore pretty well so I wouldn't dismiss this quite yet. Failing that, it still feels like Nioh But FF1 and that alone is intriguing enough I think. |

The backlash the first trailer got was DmC levels and I can't tell if Square is aware with this

Oh, they are. I just read their official release page for demo 2. They straight up say "chaos won't kill itself" and address the issues of demo 1. Brighter chaos shrine, more control over your companions, etc. Also the backlash was brief: by the time the demo was over most press outlets and many players were far more positive than those who couldn't get their heads past the awful trailer.
As for demo 2, oh wow. 14 jobs, all new area with new bosses, and 3 player coop. I am absolutely off to kill chaos. |

They're aware of it which is why they're trying to downplay it now (because they have no sense of humor)...then the song cue in the demo happened. Can't wait to see how they're going to deal with THAT |

Don't know how to feel about this game. I do get DmC vibes from it and it just seems really tryhard edgy and cool. I dont like the direction Final Fantasy has gone recently

It actual looks like a fun action game, with the hilariously bad dialogue being a plus. It's hard to believe they wrote that script and had those actors voice it unironically. It's reaching the levels of The Room, when it comes to unintentional hilarity.

Okay, I originally came here to say how much better this new trailer looks and how Square really took the negative feedback from the first trailer to heart. But then I decided to take a look at the demo and saw that "bullshit" scene. spoiler[Where Jack says that word and then plays some rap-metal on his phone and walks away...]
So it looks like the laughable edginess is still there after all. At least the gameplay looks nice. |
