Thank you for this write up. Love to see Getter Robo, and mecha as a whole, be highlighted for its historical significance and contributions to anime; a sad rarity these days.
Surprised there was no mention of Shogun Warriors. I'm guessing because all that was localized for it was the likeness of Getter Dragon. If anyone is interested in Getter Robo, I highly recommend the Getter Robo: Devolution manga. It's only 5 volumes, and by the end you will have an extremely comprehensive sense of what the franchise is all about. |

The Getter Robo G anime was edited to be a part of the mixed and matched Fire Force
Did you mean Force Five? |

Shin Getter vs Neo Getter is one of the best things ever. [expletive] Texas Mac!
Anyone who needs some hot blooded action and hasn't dabled in Getter Robo needs to see it. |

Outside of the "Fire Force/Force Five" mix up & not including Viz's old attempt at releasing the Getter Robo Go manga in the 90s under the name "Venger Robo", this more or less hits all of the basic points regarding Getter Robo's history of availability in North America, the general themes of the franchise itself, and even some of the influence it's had since, all in a rather short & neatly-packed package. Well done.
Getter Robo really is a franchise that more people know by name than are actual familiar with, which is a shame because there really is little quite like it, especially when it's more in line with Ken Ishikawa's manga vision, which all of the last few anime (Armageddon, Shin vs. Neo, New, & Arc) have stuck with. Even the titles that it did directly influence, like Gurren Lagann, don't quite match the level of insanity that 100% pure Getter Robo can, and hopefully the Arc anime will help welcome more people into the crazy fun of the franchise. |

The Metroid Series has an interesting callback to the Getter Robo Series.
Starting in Super Metroid, Samus could use an attack where her armor gets charged with energy, then she dashes super fast in any direction, destroying anything in her path. In Fusion, it was finally named the SHINE SPARK. Which is the finishing move in Getter Robo G, where the robot armor gets charged with energy, then they yell SHINE SPARK and then dash into the enemy robots. So One of Samus' signature attacks is named after a Getter Robo signature attack |

I Love Getter Robo G aka Star Vengers in the US. I’d like to see Original Getter Robo and Getter Robo G on blu ray! The 3 sequels to GRG are cool, but the score from the original anime is Classic.

Getter Robo definitely needs more love, it's such a fantastic series. I can't recommend Ken Ishikawa's manga enough. Would love for an official English release one day.

Another series influenced by Getter Robo is KOF. The traditional Esaka team of Kyo, Benimaru and Daimon use elemental powers and their personalities are kinda based on Nagare and pals.

Has there ever been any discussion as to what influence -- if any -- Getter Robo had on Hyakujū Ō Golion?
