Not to mention that they still have not fixed their garbage apps and websites. I’m assuming people are still having issues with the Beta

To add insult to injury, they've forced the new beta layout and we can't opt out of it anymore.
Pisses me off so much. Why didn't they make it an option instead of forcing it down our throats?

I hate the new layout! It's way too dark, clunky, and ugly. UGH

Crunchyroll also announced that it is developing the space opera animated series "Dark Star Squadron" with Zoe Saldana's Cinestar Pictures. Todd Ludy (Voltron: Legendary Defender) is writing the series, with Cinestar Pictures' Zoe Saldana, Cisely Saldana, and Mariel Saldana as executive producers.

Sounds like something made to sound good to investors, as opposed to being actually watched by the kind of person who subscribes to Crunchyroll.

Okay that production being filled with so many members of Saldana's family has to be some kind of red flag.

Nepotism is in every industry so it's not really that surprising.

The three Saldana sisters jointly founded the production company, so I dunno if I'd really call this nepotism.

Crunchyroll, an anime streaming service, reaches five million subscribers - and announces they're backing a western cartoon. Does anyone on Crunchyroll's management team actually understand *why* they have five million subscribers?

I'm sure they know. They just don't care and want to expand into these other ventures no matter if people want them or not.

I'm not going to rule out the show off-hand even if Crunchyroll original shows have a...very inconsistent track record.

Once again, the hot-take artists, grifters, and saboteurs out there have failed to decrease CR's subscription numbers. You love to see it.

More grist for the anti-industry outrage mill. "I pay for Netflix for their US movies and TV shows, and I don't like it that they're licensing weird Japanese cartoons," said nobody ever.

Also, I'm pretty sure plenty of anime viewers enjoyed Voltron: Legendary Defender, from the same writer as Dark Star Squadron.

The same Legendary Defender that convinced Universal to let their license expire? That one?

CR really sucks at messaging, and the fact that they have so many paid subscribers shows the demand for their product despite bad messaging. Just keep getting anime and keep airing it promptly, and people will keep paying for it.

How are CR's subscribers hurt by this? They're not doing this instead of licensing more anime.
