Getter Beam! This new Getter Robo Sounds great! In this year of 2021, the 40th Anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s Greatest Film Raiders Of The Lost Ark, we need a real life Indy to uncover 70’s Getter Robo and Getter Robo G for release on Blu Ray! So Far the 90’s to 2000’s Getter Robo is not as good as their original series, but they are Awesome! So I hope Arc arrives on Blu Ray Soon!

Sentai filmworks already has distribution rights for streaming and a home release so I imagine the blu-ray will come out sooner or later. |

I hope one day we can get the original Getter manga in English just like how Seven Seas did Devil Man.

I'm surprised no mention was made of the amazing opening courtesy of Jam Project. It's honestly the main reason I've been wanting to watch Arc lol. While I don't know anything about Getter, my friend is a huge fan and she said Arc is a fine starting point as long as you're ok with missing out on a lot of the callbacks.

Sweet! We get to have a mecha week and talk about Getter Robo!
Fun Facts: - Getter Robo Arc is essentially Part 5 in the overall Getter saga. It is kinda like JoJo, in the sense that there have been a couple of generations between the original series and this one which means that yes, it can be a jumping on point, but there is a lot of history that informs everything that's going on. - Getter Robo Arc, the manga, remains unfinished due to the magazine it was published in getting cancelled and Ken Ishikawa's untimely death. So it will be interesting to see what ending gets crafted for the anime. - Go Nagai & Ken Ishikawa were true nakama. - The similarity to Gurren Lagaan is no accident. The writer, Kazuki Nakashima, worked with Ken Ishikawa on Getter Robo and even gave the memorial address at his funeral! He also wrote Kamen Rider Fourze. Also, really cool to see Jean-Karlo reference Ideon. That series is basically Tomino doing Star Trek, and if you thought there was a lot of slapping in Gundam, I got news for ya... Lastly, if anyone is interested in more Getter Robo, I highly recommend the Devolution manga. It's only 5 volumes, and re-imagines Getter Robo in a way that ends up being super meta. If you read that, you will basically know every Getter Robo story that's out there. |

Fortunately, Arc's anime is adapting sections of the Getter Robo Go and Shin Getter Robo manga so the plot can still work (while we've gotten plenty of anime, none have covered quite the cosmic horror that Go and Shin's manga did, so I hope we see more of it). I've read all five manga years ago, so this has been fun for me so far to see how they adapt it. Hope we get the manga officially one day. |

I just wish the animation and direction were alot better. I've seen the three Getter OVA series and they were leagues above the subpar effort that Arc has. If not for that, this would be immensely more popular and talked about. Though Super Robot series are dying breed in general these days. Perhaps Getter Robo Arc was always destined to be niche, but it could have been a great niche work like Giant Robo. Instead it's probably going to be forgettable.

But, like you bring up, the prior three Getter anime were all OVAs, so they had to be effectively 100% finished (or at least as good as they could do within their own limitations) upon release, since they all went straight to home video; there was no breathing room to fix things later on. Getter Arc, on the other hand, is a TV series that's airing weekly, so there's no doubt that none of these episodes are truly "100% finished" upon airing. For example, everyone still pokes fun at the 2016/2017 Berserk series, but the home video release did fix a fair amount of things, especially the more egregious & meme-worthy shots, but since most watched that show via simulcast they'll never know about those fixes. However, if you still just don't like that Berserk's visual style in general, the fixes won't do much of anything to change your opinion much. That's partially why I'm personally waiting for the home video release Sentai will do later on, as I'm sure the animation there will be improved in various ways. Sure, it likely won't look astonishingly better, but I'm sure it'll at least be a fully completed version of the show. |

It's a shame. The art style and character design look great, but I just can't overlook CG Mechs no matter how good they apparently are.

All the blu-ray fixing in the world is not going to improve those sluggish CGI mecha battles unless they are reanimated from scratch. And I know that Jun Kawagoe as a director can do better on a TV budget than this. He did the Cyborg 009 anime series that aired on Toonami after all. |

Love this show! I really had no knowledge of the franchise other than playing the Asian versions of Super Robot Wars V, X and T with English subtitles. I was able to jump into this anime with no trouble.

Where did they get stills with decent subtitles? I've been watching Getter Robo Arc on VRV's HiDive channel, and the subtitles are white-on-black text that's often doubled up for no apparent reason.
BTW, I found that this YouTube retrospective on the Getter Robo franchise helped me get up to speed on the lore: https://youtu.be/B8OKlITEXRQ |
