Pretty cool that Gunn is a tokusatsu fan.

For me, not really. I know another Marvel Cinematic Universe director that is also a big fan of Ultraman franchise, Peyton Reed. Yep, the same Payton Reed that directed Marvel's Ant-man, and he has said it on record that Ultraman (and also Inframan from Shaw Bros) influenced Ant-Man. And how nice of Marvel to also do a Ultraman comic. So yeah, I'm not surprised by this announcement.

Ultraman used to air on tv in the 70s. My parents know ultra man even though they do not care about tokusatsu at all.

I believe Ultraman 1966 was shown on North American TV via syndication back in the 60's. Ultra Seven was shown on Hawaiian TV station back in the late 60's or early 70's and again in the 90's on TNT using a different dub (done by Cinar). Here's a English dub comparison between the Hawaiian and the TNT/Cinar dub

To be honest, looking at the design aesthetic for the Ant-Man films, I can definitely see some tokusatsu influences. Especially since they cover the faces.

Seeing the climax of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, I thought he was more of a DBZ fan. But him being a Toku fan definitely also makes sense.

If this is considered newsworthy, then how about an article highlighting Mill Creek releasing Ultraman Tiga, Dyna, & Gaia (TDG) later this year? Or Ultraman Trigger hitting 1M views in 48 hours?

It'd be nice to see some weekly Trigger reviews since there are some big toku fans on the ANN staff.

There will be a "Kick Off Event" for S2 on 8/24. Considering the material that's next in line for adaptation, it's gonna be awesome: spoiler[Intro of Ultraman Taro & the Battle of NY.]
