Yeah I'm sure it was just a mistake.

Seems rather suspicious that they would “accidentally” include this paragraph in the contest rules and only remove it after being called out. No one else really seems to be questioning this decision in the contest’s thread besides a few users...
As to what will happen to the top 3 winning entries should they be considered for and maybe even adapted into manga? Only time will tell I guess.

a reminder that Kodansha tried to pull off something similar to Ken Akamatsu,of all people, which was why he decided to abruptly end Negima.

In any case, I hope they're varied in their origins to show that Japanese literature is a craft most can enjoy with finesse if done properly.

To be fair, that paragraph is pretty much standard boilerplate for anything involving user submitted content. It was probably just a copy/paste error.

Starting to not really like these types of contests. Its like they want the user's ideas without paying them anything or just giving the users little control on their own ideas. Trying to have their cake and eat it too situation to me.

Really hoping that’s the case here. Otherwise, this could turn out very poorly for the winners of the contest if they get screwed over legally and lose the rights to their work.

Honestly I'd say this is fairly standard procedure by a company trying to exploit fans' enthusiasm for their own gain. It's been attempted and even done before, companies calling for fans to create subtitles or manga translations for free or for "perks" which were then distributed as a subscription service - to say nothing of all the "contests" involving designing mascots, creating fanart, writing fanfics, etc.

Adding my view on this since I am a writer that posts on Honeyfeed.
Honeyfeed has never monetized webnovels ever. They are a free to post platform. So from my understanding, they just want to make sure your novel isn't posted elsewhere during the judging period, and especially so if it wins. That last point is because Honeyfeed will personally translate the novels to send to Kodansha.
Also, Honeyfeed apparently wasn't in charge of the rule guidelines, so they are just as confused by the unclear/miswritten portions of the rules.

Two months isn't enough time to write anything novel size of decent quality. This contest seems to be more for people that already have something on their computer that they haven't post anywhere else, including the Honeyfeed site. They also expect a cover and the author to market while writing. The ones who will win will probably be the ones the Honeyfeed community likes and is familiar with. It'll be interesting to see how this goes.

Yep. You see this in poetry contests, photo contests, recipe submission contests, etc... etc... It's bog standard.

Well, the MAL userbase is generally fine with creative talent going unpaid and exploited, as long as it's for the sake of anime viewers and manga/LN readers getting free entertainment. But even they will take notice and complain when the shoe is potentially on the other foot.

This doesn't seem to be good.
Not too long ago, the admin who started the contest's thread in the first place responded to another user questioning the rules and called this very article "clickbait". The admin reiterated that including the now-removed rule was a "mistake".
I really don't know who or what to believe at this point in time. Some people are doubting that the winners will retain the full rights to their work while others maintain that the winners will have rights, royalties, etc. to their work.
This is a very confusing situation.
