That's kind of funny and useful to votes.

Oh, Royal.
Isn't France chock full of manga anyway? Much, much more so that the States? Well, I guess it's not as mainstream as it is in Asia, but still.
Well, good luck with that. *shrug*

Yes.
I've heard that something like 50% of French people read manga, but that might be wrong. But it's much bigger there than here in the US.

Says the country which gave us Luc Besson films and "Irreversible".

Obviously she, or her handlers, have no clue as to what she (they) are talking about.

Anyone who stereotypes a nation like that doesn't deserve to be president. I hope this French bitch gets what's coming to her. She obviously saw some little kid reading an h-doujin and is all up in arms against Japan. Huh, kinda like the soccer moms and fanatical Christians we have here.

Someone needs to do a rant (not myself) on people categorizing manga as a genre, not a medium.

I find issues and debates regarding bad material in medias to be pretty interesting. Don't ask me why though. But I never realize that other countries would criticize this stuff for being inappropiate. But they also criticized games depending on their content. Now what shocked me was that Greece banned every video-game, appropiate and inappropiate, and gamers, too. And violent and sexual games were banned from Austarlia because of no 18+ rating. Also, when I llok at these debates, I eat a certain type of food. Here's a list.

Please provide some examples of actual incidents. I keep hearing about all these "soccer moms" and "fanatical Christians" causing problems here in the US over anime and manga. Provide me with a clear example, not some Viz press statement going "we don't want to offend anyone" or whatever. I want to hear about a protest rally or something serious.
So far, not a single person who has made some snide or sarcastic comment about these groups has provided a single clear example that I've seen.
On French politics, strangely, I've actually been following this election over there. Nicolas Sarkozy would get my vote over any of the other candidates. He actually seems to have a grasp of France's problems and at least some sort of idea how to deal with them that's realistic.

You know that you're selling well when government officials say that your product is bad for society.

Couldn't have been put better when in her book she is criticizing the Japanese media for having a high tolerance of sex and violence. I agree with Aso, she needs to read more manga to see what kind of stories are truly out there, most notably, things like shonen or shojo titles. I'm sure she would find them very interesting. The Japanese have also been cracking down lately on what they are showing on television. Granted, they were showing a lot more nudity seven to eight years ago than they are now.

Japan and French are the only two countries where comics(manga) sale > book sale
