Kekkaishi is an underrated gem of 2000s anime. I wish the anime covered the full manga.
or maybe this Crunchy release is a test run for interest in the anime to be continued?

Nice! My sister just finished reading through my manga and was interested in the anime, but I never bought it. Sounds like I'll be able to not only remedy that in the future, but my sister can go ahead and check it out beforehand. Always felt this series was underrated as far as shounens go, but I suppose it does have a bit of a slow start compared to some. Hopefully this will help some new folks find and enjoy it.

Kekkaishi is one of those shows that I watched in full, I know I watched in full, yet I regularly forget that it even existed. It's not bad or anything, and maybe that's the problem. It's just...nondescript. A pleasant-enough shonen that doesn't leave much of an impression.

Kekkaishi and Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple were the two shows that made me want to get the manga to know how they continued or were different from the anime. I check occasionally, but getting a box set will probably never happen, but I can hope.

@ Top Gun
That my take of it as well. I watched it, but can't remember how it
ended.

Kekkaishi is the definition of license filler, the sort of thing that gets picked up in a package deal to sweeten the pot but the public doesn’t care about it. Not that they hate it, they just have an indifferent “meh”. Adult Swim Action picking it up in the days before mass streaming (after the bubble burst on the first anime boom, let’s be blunt) to dismissive sighs was the most exposure it ever got.

Kekkaishi was easily the most out-of-left-field anime pickup [as] ever made, at least until the first couple years of Toonami.
