I totally agree. Initial D may not look very pretty but it has a fun story. I haven't seen it in years but I'm sure it will still keep me entertained.

I have yet to watch Daikon Brothers 2. Its been sitting on my shelf since it came out and I just haven't had the time to watch. I watched it in Raw format when they initially aired in japan but since I am terrible at Japanese, I had no clue what was going on. But even in English, half the time you don't know what is going on.

Ouch! To Heart in the Perishables. Anime exclamation

It does make an interesting title since it's one of the first anime titles that's came from a visual novel. Though I did see the first 4 episodes on those old fansubs awhile back, and MAN it was slow paced. Though it was kind of interesting how some of the girls' archetypes are quite similar to the ones from Kanon (of course Kanon has more dramatic impact since it is one of the first "crying games").

I admit it, I'm one of those shallow types that can't get past the Initial D animation and character design. I'm not sure what it is, normally that takes a back seat to story for me but with Initial D it just bothers me. Not sure what to think about that Daikon Brothers, it just sounds a bit strange and while I've watched a few strange series before I think this one takes the cake in the department from the sound of it.

I love Initial D! It is such a fun show! Regardless of the really crappy animation, character designs, CG animations ... But I am not sure I want to reinvest money in getting the Funimation distribution version since I have the tokyopop one. As for the other shows listed, they do not seem too interesting to me.

Thank you Bamboo, that shelf life put me at ease about Kurau Phantom Memory. It's one of the shows I've been wanting to see this year but have had some doubts about it. That review really helped put my mind to ease....thank you! Now all I need to do is find some money for all the titles I want... Wink

If I ever decide to go out dancing again, haven't done it in years, I'll know where to pick up the "latest" moves. I don't even need the DVD I can just play that gif. Very Happy

I'm glad I didn't pick up To Heart now. I was slightly interested and close to pre-ordering the volumes and stopped myself when I spotted something cool I wanted to buy even more. Now, I'm pretty sure I won't be going back to purchase it later as I had originally thought. The show just sounds completely vanilla. I dislike it when a series fails to properly handle conflict, but a show without any real conflict is just boring.

I have watched all of 3 episodes of Initial D, I have a friend who thinks it is the greatest thing ever and so recommended I watch it and provided a couple of disks. I absolutely hated it; I could not find any part of it fun or entertaining. And then, knowing his tastes, I tried to get back at him by recommending him my favorite show, Ranma, and loaning a couple of DVDs. Turns out he likes it wants to borrow more, so I'll have to find some other way to get back at him for making me watch Initial D.

I've heard a lot of good things about Nerima Daikon Brothers, I'll have to check that out sometime.

I won't submit them because they're pretty low quality (all I have is a camera phone), but I do have some pics of my dog with anime and I took a couple more today to post here.

This is Menchi (it is a he, but I did name him after Excel's emergency food, erm, dog) at 5 weeks old. He was really young but as you can see he was already a Ranma fan. I actually took the picture to show friends his size compared to a DVD case, and that was the re-release of the OAV so I figured if he chewed the case there wouldn't be too much of a problem since I still have the original. But the case did get his attention enough for me to snap quite a few pics with it, here's another.

Now here is Menchi today; he's finally gotten bigger than the DVD cases. Also he's still only 11 weeks old, and has teethed since, so of course likes to chew stuff up, and I didn't want him sitting on a large part of my collection, but I figured I could sacrifice Desert Punk for the purpose of these pics. And as you can see he hates it. He even made sure to chew on each of the DP cases I placed at least once. Thankfully I was right in thinking he would leave the boxes alone. And as everyone can see I have not yet made my bed today. Anime smile + sweatdrop

Undead Ben, your dog is freakin' adorable. Embarassed

I see what you're saying about a complete lack of conflict being a bit of a downer, but it still sounds like a series I'll enjoy. I pre-ordered it a while ago, mostly because of the series' reputation and because of the extensive work that Right Stuf put into remastering it (which is a trend I definitely want to throw my wallet behind). Correct me if I'm wrong (because I haven't gotten my copy yet, but it IS on the way Very Happy ), but it sounds like it's similar in tone to Boys Be..., and if that's the case I'll definitely still enjoy it.

Kurau Phantom Memory...makes me want to see it lol. I'd been planing on getting it and this cemented it. The only other title of intrest was Nerima but I already own it so the review was right on.

Inital D...I have a friend who loves that show. I'm wondering- is there a new dub or is it still the same...bad one from before? If not maybe i'll watch grab this or something.

And yes, that dog is cute.

Initial D is the reason I became interested in cars, the reason I saw The Fast and the Furious: TOKYO DRIFT opening night,

You do know that Tokyo Drift is a "remake" of Initial D, right? The only difference is the spoiler[female lead is the daughter of a prostitute, instead of being one herself. ] Rolling Eyes

Much as I'd love the big e-props, I think any theoretical pet I had would surely die in that situation. Unless it was an Armored Armadillo or something like that.

Kurau: Phantom Memory has interested me for awhile, at least enough to pick up the fansubs. Haven't watched them, though--I want to see if the DVDs are worth it after the almost three years of waiting since the AX 2004 announcement. (Not that I've waited that long, but you get the point.) Of all the similarities to other series, it sounds closest to Figure 17, as both seem to have that "preteen girl gets mixed up with aliens, acquires special powers, and is drawn into some conflict" plot.

To Heart getting "Perishable" status? After all the work that Rightstuf did in restoring it, and having the guts to even bring out the series in the first place? Okay, I see the point that it's a no conflict story, which isn't good from a dramaturgical point of view...but really, the point of TH is to get a relaxing, amusing, maybe nostalgic viewing experience, without all that angst and strife. People complain that Rumbling Hearts is too much angst and melodrama; here's the other side of the dating-sim-based spectrum of anime. TH was, incidentally, the anime that started me downloading anime, after all the cameos in Comic Party made me interested in it. Actually, as far as I can tell, Sentimental Journey from 1998 was the first major anime adaptation of a dating-sim, which at least warranted a rental.

Initial D never really interested me, because I've never been much of a car nut and the animation / story quality never looked like enough to overcome that lack of passion for automobiles. NDB sounds crazy enough that I'll check it out at some point, but there's always some bargain that will come along and cut the price later.

Bamboo, your reviews make me laugh out loud. "Knife a bitch" is a phrase that is grossly underused nowadays. Your use here has inspired me to incorporate it into my common vocabulary; I'll try to to be sure to use it at least once a day until it sticks. Wink

Yeah, well you see if they didn't do that, they obviously couldn't touch the success rate of an angry japanophile hollywood conspiracy theory nerd posting irrational crap on a message board you darn playa~
