Watched the first 17 minutes that aired before the Earthquake hit. Really good episode ended at a place that natually seemed like the end of the episode.

Kinda crazy Mappa got an extra week thrown on their lap and decide to air a double episode.

Fansubs cut it off early. It was actually around 19 minutes and was cut off mid sentence

Have yet to see if Hulu was given the episode yet, but if not then chances are pretty good that it’ll have 73-74 at the same time too. I’m more engaged watching multiple episodes of SnK at once for some reason despite how much I need to watch them at premiere.

Most likely NHK's decision. The staff at Mappa surely would love to get more time.

I’m glad everyone is safe!
But before I knew about the earthquake, I was searching Twitter for information on why the episode wasn’t available yet, and I saw lots of English language tweets straight up spoiling the episode!!! Mad (I guess they found fan subs of the half that aired). Not cool, guys. If you know the episode isn’t available to the majority of fans for a legitimate reason, don’t post spoilers on social media!

Usually whenever an anime has an episode delayed we just have to grit our teeth and put up with it. But with this it's like where getting a 2 episode special next week. So that's cool.

Not really. Cause had they not done this, that means either one episode is not aired (and put on blu-ray/dvd only) or that it delays whichever show takes it's timeslot. Seasonal anime are made to fit into the season, so if something is delayed, it messes up the schedule or it means the next show has one less episode.

In this case, NHK (the broadcaster) probably didn't want either Attack on Titan or the next show in timeslot to be affected, and the scheduling also obviously allowed for it (which is quite often not the case). MAPPA may even have already finished working on it, or started production on all planned episodes, meaning they can't cut out an episode either. Whatever the case, it's not surprising given this is Attack on Titan, and would want to give the manga's finale all the promotion it can get. This is mostly an NHK decision anyway, and not MAPPA's.
