What on Earth does "Afro-futuristic" mean?
If this series isn't literally about cyber afros I'll be very disappointed. |

1 million more subs in ~6 months seems like a decent growth. Also whatever happened to their other original "anime" they were supposedly developing a while ago? I forget even its name, something Guardian something.. bet they canned it entirely.

Dude, you could have taken five seconds to search Wikipedia instead of making a disparaging joke. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afrofuturism |

So Crunchyroll is announcing a new series, yet won't release High Guardian Spice even though it's been done for over a year...
The idea sounds pretty cool, I'll give it that. A part of me does wonder how Sony will handle original shows like this. FUNimation hasn't shown much interest in their own productions and just buys whatever they can for the season.[/i] |

Sounds cool, but considering AT&T is involved (and how they've been handling DC Comics) I'm skeptic.

As @Madster noted, High Guardian Spice production wrapped up back in November, 2019. It was even briefly featured in this CR Originals trailer in February, 2020. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlFRoUMkUDw A big shame knowing that Crunchyroll has gained 1 million subscribers in six months and the translators and other folks involved in making sure the episodes are able to premier on time still aren't paid a fair. |

I mean, do they contribute to any of the Crunchyroll productions or no? |

It's funny reading those comments on that trailer now that all the Webtoon anime have aired. They were hyped a LOT back then, but then they came out and were just alright. Not to mention the High Guardian Spice sound clip: "You fought out there like a true warrior!"
Something like this was bound to happen sadly. Hell, the last time the anime community brought the issue of translator wages to Crunchyroll they shrugged it off as "internet drama". Crunchyroll is going after the money while disregarding the people who helped them get to where they're at now. Gotta fund a new studio somehow! |

I guess the Sony buyout isn't going to stop Crunchy from making their own stuff.

So after a series of disasters called Crunchyroll Originals (i.e. Gibiate, Ex-ARM, High Guardian Spice which they haven't even bother releasing, Onyx Equinox which everyone rightfully snubbed, etc.) they are now throwing subscribers money to make an Akudama Drive knock-off, then. Am I right?
EDIT: Seriously, who asked for this? I'm really hoping that once Sony bought Crunchyroll that Sony/Funimation will do the right thing and shut Crunchyroll down, then transfer every CR license to Funi. EDIT 2: BTW, they still aren't paying their translators properly. |

Idris Elba? British TV and movie star Idris Elba?! Yes, I’m definitely interested!
I hope this one will be a hit! |

It's just not him, there is the need for good screenwriters too. |

Can i ask, have any of Crunchyroll originals so far been any successful? as i all i keep hearing are failures after failure not unless you count a few titles that helped co-produce.

Sony shutting down CR? Not gonna happen, especially if CR keeps growing like this and also especially how they still grew THIS MUCH even when all odds were stacked against them (AT&T not reinvesting and siphoning CR's profits and the combined might of Sony/Funi/Aniplex/Bilibili/Hulu/Wakanim/Madman) |
