I'm unexpectedly touched by everything mentioned in the article, but hell if I can articulate why.

The Daily Sports article says:

Daigoku Masamune

Actually, the way to read the '大黒' part of the name of the saké is 'Daikoku'.
Since native users of Japanese and foreign people who are really fluent in Japanese know about the deity 大黒様 (Daikoku-sama), it is unlikely that they think of 'daigoku' as the 1st candidate way to read the kanji word '大黒', when they see the kanji word '大黒' in contexts like that.

The brewery is best known for the Daigoku Masamune brand, which was established 270 years ago.

Certainly, the founder started the brewery in Hōreki 1 (AD 1751), but the saké was named Daikoku Masamune by high priest Yamada Mumon in the 20th century.
