Very promising. Tekkon Kinkreet is a no-brainer for me to eventually look into since I loved the original manga, and I've heard some praise for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. By any luck these movies will be available over here for North America at some point. (In fact, I heard that Sony is either pursuing or is getting the rights for Tekkon Kinkreet, though I don't recall the source offhand.)

God, I hope so. It's killing me not to be able to see Tekkon Kinkreet even though it's been out in Japan for so long, and I've already been eagerly awaiting it for years. Congrats to both films for their respective awards. I have a strong feeling they both deserved it. |

If they could bring the original 1980's Tokikake movie over to the U.S., I think it'd be pretty awesome. I actually rented it from Scarecrow Video in Seattle a few months ago. It was a book (and movie) (and song!) that was very popular in Japan.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0086456/ Kadokawa (publisher) made a lot of effort to integrate (cross-promote) books and movies and music. The lead in the movie voice acted in Harmaggedon: http://imdb.com/title/tt0150844/ |

I think that the name of the award is Ôfuji Noburô Award and the name of the animator in question, who made Kujira and Yûreisen, is Ôfuji Noburô. |
