^^;; I thought it was pretty cool. I was at the concert, and when I started seeing anime, the nerd part of me flipped out.

Well I'd admit it now, SexyBack = my guilty pleasure song Confused Ha and I dislike Justin Timberlake quite abit, just..because, ... I hear his movie alphadog is actually good.
On another note, I remember 2 years back when I was at a Linkin park Concert, they used footage footage from Last exile, didn't surprise me since Gonzo did their video "Breaking the Habit"

Last Year I happen to see 30 Second to Mars and inbetween bands changing their gears they were playing the Hellsing OVA trailer. I get where your coming from, I grab my buddy next to me and was like holy crap it's Hellsing (this is back when the first OVA disc wasn't even released) so that was a cool moment.

Delta

P.S. Did you contact Geneon last night/this morning to ask them if they gave Justin Permission to use that clip. Also in the news it read "Some of the video comes from various anime series, including Ergo Proxy." were there other anime that you didn't know or were they some sort of cartoon. Just curious.

Shocked this stuff has been at other places? this is really pissing me off Evil or Very Mad Linkin Park i can perfectly understand, but JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE!? thats just too much.

im not flamming, but seeing anime being turned into some kind of mass marketing tool is making me very upset. I've seen too many of my interests be mass marketed into something different. anime rip offs, an Avatar live action series, american made anime toys for naruto...WHAT THE HELL!? im hoping that things like this blow the medias attention out from them overexausting themselves.

so you would rather anime not be marketed, thus tearing the industry down, have many hardworking anime writers, artists, editors, etc out of work, all while not having thier working appreciated by the American devil kids who think anime is soo cool.

Also, one anime rip off is what another may be called a fantastic ode to an art style that should be free for anyone to emulate. Waitasec...there's an Airbender live action series...SWEET!

Anyway, the JT footage is very healthy for the industry. The exposure is great for American businesses who pay the large amounts of $$ to the Japanese creators of this stuff, ending in the result and drive for more fantastic anime in out future (though I tire of the high school dramedies, and long for the return of epic fantasy anime's such as Lodoss War and Escaflowne).

uhm, when it comes to mass marketing are we forgetting that anime is one of japans largest industries, that entire pop culture phenomenons are generated by anime (pokemon). to try and think that it is some underground thing and that only the 'cool' underground people who 'get it' can only watch anime is asinine. just because anime is still largely reserved for the nerd culture in america doesn't mean that it has anything to do with that culture. western musicians have been using anime for a long time now. i can't even count how many artists have sampled audio from anime, or how many music video's i have seen with anime clips...this isn't something new. this isn't something unnatural. anime is made to make money. western licensing companies buy anime to make money, they are not doing this to appease some sort of fan bas (real or otherwise). personally, i hate timberlake but if he or his production staff wants to promote Ergo Proxy, cool, i don't think enough people know about the show. Although, I don't think i matters either way. I can only assume, since i wasn't anywhere near the concert, that they didn't have a large sign that said 'This cartoon we are showing you clips of is called Ergo Proxy'. So only the people who know what it is that were there know what it was, and the rest of the people probably aren't going to give a crap or really try and find out what it was....so in the end it really doesn't matter after all.

^Exactly.

Anime's been being used in music videos for years, this is nothing new. Plus, hip-hop has been trying to attatch itself to anime since the mid-90's (anyone remember all that anime-imitation skateboard art, etc?) This is nothing new; they're just using it as a symbol of the counterculture. Kind of weird, since hip-hop is really the popular culture.

I'm the same way. Anime hyper Whenever I see something in popular culture relating to one of my less-than-mainstream interests (like a CD released before the LOTR movies referencing several quotes from the books, or a webcomic doing a spoof of Phoenix Wright), I flip out. I probably would've had the same reaction you did!
