What is this? It doesn't seem very professional when you have "Fullmetal Alchemist- The Movie" and "Conquerer of Shambala" as seperate options on the same question.

I'm not sure I fully understand the nomination requirements. It says that it's for any anime available on DVD, TV, book, or what have you in 2006, but is that any airing? Is that why Akira is nominated? Surely this year wasn't the first time it was ever on TV, if it was on TV, but it gets a nomination where Howl's Moving Castle doesn't?
Also, I'm not sure why Utena is in the 13 episodes or less catagory...

And Utena was in the 13 episodes or less category.
Dang, got it seconds after the post above me.

Noein was also in the short series category when it had a 26 episode run, considering this was supposed be an industry select panel they have done a very careless job.

wth....it has Kamichu(13 eps) in the Long Series category, Akira as a comedy(in the Best Actor in a Comedy category), and Utena as a short series......I believe the only way to categorize that is "phail"

Well, I didn't put much credibility in to it to start since it relies so much on fan voting. While a good concept in thoery, the problem is since many series are just more popular and will gain more votes based on viewership numbers it makes it more a popularity contest than a contest of quality and subject matter. Now after seeing this I'm pretty amazed, this is far worse than I imagined it'd be.

Yeah this doesn't seem like a very good competition. A couple other errors I have spotted:
They have everyone's names listed next to the series they worked in but in Best Actress they list "Eileen Stevens (Belldandy)," now I know what they mean, but Belldandy is a character. And in other categories they don't even list a series or character for the nominee when the category is best actor/actress in a [genre] series.
And for the best actor in a comedy they list "Johnny Yong Bosch (Akira)." Now I have seen Akira twice and neither time did it look like a comedy to me.
ETA:
Oops that one was already mentioned. Sorry, faye_worshipper69.
Edited again to add:
I haven't seen the Animaze dub of Akira, maybe they changed it to a comedy in the re-dub.

I also saw in one of the categories 'Negimak" I'm guessing that's Negima, but I laugh at trying to say that. And sin't Kamichu 16 episodes.? Which makes it more then 13

While I agree that there are some glaring errors they did get Kamichu! correct. Kamichu! has 16 episodes and the short series were defined as 13 episodes or less.
edit: ah, not fast enough...

Wow... yeah, this really does fail. It seems completely disorganized. The only way to do this IMO would be to restrict it to a specific year (shows released totally or partially in 2006, for instance) or at least a specific period (2003-2006, for instance).
ETA: I also get the sense that all of the companies participating in this insisted on getting some of their series in the nominations. Otherwise, it doesn't make any sense for Utena (despite the fact that it's my favorite series) to be appearing here.

You hit the nail on the head.
Love the idea of the anime awards, but it's a little confusing. Why are the nominees not from this past year only? Having shows from different years, some over a decade apart, is like Gone with the Wind going up against Lord of the Rings. Or Katherine Hepburn going up against Cait Blanchtte.
Plus, the websight states:
"The ballots contain nominations from industry companies."
Again, looking to Hollywood for comparison, companies like Miramax and Fox don't pick the Oscar nominees. Directors, writers, and actors in the business do. Or the people (i.e. fans) for the People's Choice Awards.
And then to have actors listed not for a show they did THIS past year, but for shows throughout their careers..? Is this a one time thing, this awards ceremony? The best anime performances of all time?? And if not, are the SAME people going to run against each other every year?
I think you're right, this seems like a corporate media strategy more than anything. Hence the "wide variety" of VA hostesses. Actors from Texas all the way to... Texas. Work it, ADV.

I still voted, but I could tell that it was very disorganized and unprofessional. Quite a few errors. They really could have done a better job, albeit it is the first time.

I didn't catch that. Perhaps it was fixed?

Di Gi Charat is considered a "long series"!? News to me... I mean, I know it's technically over 13 episodes... But when each episode is only like three minutes long...
I pretty much have already guessing what anime is going to win each category. The most popular ones. Ha, like Di Gi Charat is going to stand a chance against Naruto. Heck, I doubt even Gankutsuou will stand a chance against it. Suppose that's how it ends up when fans vote...

Exactly. That's why I prefer the ratings here that take things into account other than just how many votes they've gotten. I think giving a rating from 1-10 for each series you've seen and then taking the average score for each would work better. It would actually give other, less known series a good chance (basically what they do in the encyclopedia here...).

I love how about 80% of the series nominees are from this decade, save for CPM's titles.
I wonder why Geneon didn't try to pimp Bosch for Trigun in the comedy actor category instead of Akira...
