Ha! For once there something to rejoice about living in the Uk for the anime industry!

I'm sure there are going to be a ton of people importing this from the US. Better than waiting around for the sci-fi channel license to expire =\

Why would I bother importing it, when I can probably rent it when it comes out on R1 dvd? It's only from Miyazaki's son, after all, so it's not really a priority for me. I just want Only Yesterday, On Your Mark, and Ocean Waves to get a release already. (And if we're really lucky, old school stuff like Heidi and 3,000 Miles in Search of Mother.)

no Gatsu, it ain' happenning, too optimistic for my point of view, the R1 are authorized for release in 2009 (a lot of money being lost there) so there will be no such thing, I'll stick with the hong kong release...as always

ichido: I don't see how money is being lost, when the film's main market is in Japan. And I'm guessing Optimum had to pay Disney for the rights to the UK version, so it's totally profitable.

Who's Stephen? I reported this last Thursday in the Anime forum. Oh yeah I forgot I'm an "unreliable source" Silly me. Let me guess Stephen works for Optimum Releasing?

I bought the Optimum release of Only Yesterday from Amazon for only Price: £10.97 You Save: £9.02 (45%), even if you factor in shipping, it is still a great deal. The PAL to NTSC conversion will vary depending on your player. My Oppo handles aliasing between PAL to NTSC much better than my JVC. I believe most upconverting DVD players will do a better job, since they are already built to convert NTSC signals to 1080 the should also do a great job converting PAL to 1080i. I'm currently eyeing the DVDO VP30 or 50 which should convert PAL to NTSC at a professional quality, as well as correct my tv's overscan,

Optimum's DVDs don't seem to have as many extras as their 2DVD US counterparts. I believe the Howl's DVD does include the R1 missing interview with Dyann Wynn Jones, which is also included on the R2 release. I wonder why the Disney release is missing this interview.

I'll think I'll just make a nice order with Amazon.UK for Gedo, along with GITS Innocence (UK vers.). It's better than waiting and hoping that something will be released here.

You might want to wait, as it won't be available untill the Summer 2007,

I have done that in the past but got nowhere, except for one rather sarcy response that seemed to imply I was being a nuisance, so I haven't bothered since.

Earthsea is considered a classic fantasy series with it's main fanbase in the UK and North America. There's a huge fanbase here for the books, not to mention all the familys that automatically buy whatever animated movie disney distros.

Didn't Ursula K. Le Guin give the impression she wasn't massively thrilled by the anime adaption either? She has every right to dislike a derivative of her work of course but I read an interview with her once (or was it a column she wrote?) in which she came off as a bit of a tetchy person in general.

Her main gripe with both, is that neither had depicted the ethnic skin colours of the characters she created. Apparently there are very few white folk in her novels, where as they're all over the place in the TV series, and the anime. A fair shout me thinks.
