in all seriousness, is the anime industry realistically going to die soon? It was always there with the work ethics but this shit with the viral pandemic on top of that has been causing a lot of personal concern with all these delays. I was crushed with Re:ZERO's delay.

Like I know it might sound selfish but anime is such a huge part of my only happiness in life that I honestly don't know what I would do without it. And I've seen so much anime in my life to where I'm almost forced into seasonals now other than obscure 1980 RAWs.

If fall of the anime industry worst that happens to Japan, then my country getting off lightly. For all complaining I hear from family in U.S. about America's handling of COVID-19, Japan's been worse. Here in Japanland, we have stay home order that no one listens to. Maybe downtown Shinjuku vacant but I live few blocks from Ueno-Koen and so many people out because tired of being in that starting to look like pre pandemic some afternoons. Things here will get much worse than Italy or West. Delay anime will become least of our problems

My younger brother retire last fall from career at Sunrise. He tells me weekly how bad things gotten at office and glad he retired. He makes things sound much serve compared to what ANN reports.

Off to bed, late here now Stay safe Sad

Let's hope so. The industry is plagued by corporate greed and exploitation that shows no sign of stopping. Aside from a few shows a year, everything else is forgetfully uninspired garbage. The animation is weak, the compositing is weak, the backgrounds are weak. It's a never-ending stream of trash and people have unfortunately gotten used to it. This industry truly needs a reboot and fast.

They should just cancel this anime, as nothing of value would be lost. It’s not like magic school anime is hot anymore.

The Japanese anime industry is big enough that they'll probably be fine but I do worry about what impact this will have on the US anime industry that depends on a steady influx of new shows every year, especially smaller companies like Sentai.

Unless Japan suffers a significantly higher death toll from COVID 19, than the other major countries, there shouldn’t be any major problems in Japan’s animation industry. The very nature of Japan’s anime industry is not centralized. Due to Japan’s production by committee process, even if some of the usual committee participants go under, there are more still out there.

There is no such thing as a reboot. Dead is dead. If what you wish for happens, there would be ashes. Japan would probably still keep their children's animation happening, but all the stuff anime fans like wouldn't be happening. That is not to say there would be no anime, just like any other nation they would have some you could call anime. There just wouldn't be all that much. For as much as some western fans curse it, the committee system is what allows Japan to produce the amount of anime that Japan is known for.

The committee system allows for losses and risk to be spread out. That in turn lowers the financial entry level that the members of the committee have to contribute.

Without it, there probably wouldn't be an anime fandom like now.

Not gonna lie I've been worried as hell about Sentai since all this started and as such I've been throwing more cash their way than I normally do. (Not just because I'm banking on them releasing Happy Sugar Life eventually...) Most of the other licensors will probably be fine because they either have their big properties or they are niche to begin with, but I imagine this is gonna hurt Sentai more than the rest.

Uh, this series is one of the most popular LN series in Japan so that would be a pretty stupid move.
