I don't subscribe for video quality. I do it to avoid advertising.

While HD video is free on Crunchyroll, viewers won't be able to get away from advertisements without dropping cash on a subscription.

Or by using adblock when on desktop. Which I normally wouldn't recommend for such a service but I've had bad re-directs on Crunchyroll a few years ago so they lost my trust. Adblockers are NOT just about blocking ads, but also a safety feature against stuff like that. Sites need to vet their ads better. To clarify, I'm not talking about when their whole site got hijacked in 2017. Of course this isn't an issue if using one of the app versions such as on XBOX/PS4/FireTV/Roku devices, and you're stuck with ads there unless you use something like a pi. But in those situations there's really no good reason to avoid the ads without paying money since they don't have that malware risk.

There, I fixed it for you because they'll probably fix it so you can't soon.

lol my account is logged out atm and I have both u block and ad block on so I can watch 1080p and ad free for free so they need to do something about this cause I feel kinda cheated a bit good thing there is more perks to being a paying member than just ad free and HD content or I would be royally ticked right now.

As for me I sub more for the simulcasts cause I'm too impatient to wait a week for new episodes of my favorite shows or series that I have interest in. Also some movies are premium only I've noticed like Kuroko's Basketball Last Game.

Imagine not using uBlock in 2020.

Most movies, OVAs of existing series are premium only and so are any uncensored versions if they get them during simulcast. But most catalog (home video) acquisitions are not though

The only reason I sub is cause I like to pay for my content. I don't even know what my member perks are.

Does that apply to the Android app as well?

And yet we still don't have a Crunchyroll app for the Nintendo Switch... Is Nintendo to blame or Crunchyroll themselves?

Yeah I stopped watching Crunchyroll on my computer because it would only play at 480 but if I used the app on My PlayStation 3 it ran at 1080p, I bought my self a Roku and watch it on there now.

I do use uBlock, and Ghostery as well. I have them turned off for some sites like Crunchyroll. Plus I feel a responsibility to pay for the content I consume whenever I can. I don't think $7/month is all that onerous.

Plus what is the big deal about 1080p streams? Aren't most anime still shot at 720p, so 1080p is an upscale, right?

Kind of figured people knew about this. I only started using Crunchyroll recently (free version) now that they have gotten into producing their own dubs to see how I liked it, and pretty much the first thing I did was adjust video quality.

Considering that other big name video streaming services like Netflix isn't on the system, it's most likely Nintendo's decision. Though oddly Youtube is the only one accepted last I saw.
