...because over-analysis by a fanboy is one thing; overanalysis commentary by a fanboy with a PhD is another thing *entirely*...

'Eva', as great a show as it is, isn't really that deep.

From my experience, most people, when they go searching for info on 'Eva' just want to know what actually happened in a particular part of the show (because it's confusing at times) as opposed to why it happened. In the end, I suspect, these essays will provide more insight into the psyche of the person who's written them, rather than the show itself.

That said, it'll be interesting to see a section on "Gainax and explotaition of 'Eva'" Wink or how 'Eva's' music was influenced by music in 'Nadia'.

This book reminds me of the "Matrix" philosophy essays that came out around the same time as "Matrix" sequels.

I don't understand, I thought The Matrix was just Descartes. Which, if so, would mean any discussion of its philosophy would be the discussion of his problematic philosophy.

It's a bit sad that this gets a entire book devoted to its analysis before many more deserving series, but I can't say I didn't expect it. On the possitive end of things, I'm sure gatsu's take on things will be amusing.

I loved Stray Dog of Anime, but an analysis on Paranoia Agent or Utena is more deseving.

It's an interesting little bit of news, not sure if I am going to read anything when they do come out. Eva is just getting old....I am tired of the rerelease, and well hopefully these essay can breathe new air into this anime.....because I do love it so much

On the contrary, if other series' were so "deserving" it would have happened.

Throw a fanbase a bone, and they will bite. The semiotics of Evangelion are begging to be thoroughly analyzed by a group or person.

Unless the pop culture reference in Eureka 7 are somehow subject to more thorough analysis?

I agree, I love the series, but this would have probably done better if written earlier on than now. I thought I have heard everything there is by this point.(kidding, kinda)

Hopefully he will put out a chapter for free on the net to maybe show how his book(is this a book? It said chapters so I am confused, and unfamiliar) is different from other common arguments. I am mildly curious how 'intellectuals' views will undoubtitly get out of hand and stray into the absurd, but that would be more for the comedic sense.
