I think Hellsing or Naruto might win after this news post (everyone goes to vote)
I don't know which to vote for however, Am i voting for the series, or the individual book? |

Naruto roars strong up through the Sannin fight, so I'm not entirely surprised.

I just voted for Hellsing in Graphic Novels and [i]Book of the Year. Because Hellsing is the greatest thing ever. I wonder how they came up with Hellsing and Naruto? It can't get any more opposite.

I voted for Naruto since it's is one of my favorite series, and I have yet to see Hellsing, so I don't know much about it. Hopefully one of the manga volumes will win in the graphic novel section... It's good that some manga was at least nominated. Hopefully more and more people will vote for one of the volumes. I'm guessing that me going on there and voting for Naruto everyday won't work, right?

I'm a little...disappointed. Naruto's a fun read, and I've heard good things about Hellsing, but...I'd kinda like slightly more...I dunno, "artistic" manga to be nominated.
Oh well. |

You just click the link they [A.N.N.] provided, then, once you're at the site, click the words that say which category to vote for [vote for such-n-such category] and then scroll down a little 'til you see the nominees. And yeah, I'm sure it's a vote for the series... not just the volume. I voted for Naruto, cuzz I was pretty creeped out/disgusted by most of the Hellsing anime, but I can't speak for the manga (haven't read it), so I just went with what I know. lol I was also pleasently surprised when I checked the other categories and saw Eldest in the Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Horror nominations. I love that series! |

I doubt you'll have to worry about that. I'm sure once the nomination news spreads to Naruto forums and fansites, they'll flood the voting anyway. I am truly at a complete loss when it comes to nominating a volume out of a complete series. Why did they pick those two? I don't remember anything outstanding in Naruto v. 7. I would have voted for something like Nodame Cantabile v. 5 (for the orchestra music scene) or maybe Dolls v. 4 (for the melancoly story). Maybe Voice of a Distant Star can be nominated next year. |

Le sign...definitally could have picked better choices, even in the American category. Of the nomintees Fun Home deserves the win in my opinion, and judging by the attention from the mainstream press it has gotten (which is probobly the quota for being nominated) it should win (Mom's Cancer could be a darkhorse though, as it is a landmark in webcomics and all-around exellent).

Weird choices. Well, I can't vote for any of 'em since I haven't read any of them.

Seen on the Quills website:
A nominating board of librarians and booksellers, and you have to meet some PW/Borders criteria thingy. This is basically a corporate cheerleading popularity contest for which book has the best marketing push behind it ... which basically makes it like most other book awards. |

I see that you can also vote for the graphic novel nominees to be "Book of the Year".
I wonder if Naruto fans are going to stuff that ballot box too and make Naruto "Book of the Year" (out of all books, not just Graphic Novels) and make the Quills Award lose whatever tiny shred of credibility in the publishing world that it might have had? That would actually be kind of amusing. |

Actually, I don't think many Naruto fans really care. Yesterday I was on the forums for one of the most famous Naruto websites in the world (I can't give out the URL because they provide fansubs, but most people already know which site I'm talking about) and I posted that everyone should vote for Naruto. Half the replies I got were from people who gave me answers like "sry dood, bt who cares? so what if it wins or not?" and "ill git 2 dat later. naruto isnt me hole lyf!" Now, I don't think these people can be used to represent the whole fanbase of Naruto, but I'm guessing that it represents a fair amount of them. But.... I do see Naruto winning over Hellsing. I'm pretty sure there are much more Naruto fans out there than Hellsing fans. |
