I think we can safely say that this arsonist will be enjoying a very long time in a cold hard cell for this. What a vile person.

As a structural engineer, I will say this: the current damage (which is still worsening as fire not being wiped out completely for now) on Kyoto animation building will take AT LEAST 6-8 months to rebuild since the firing locations are very tricky to repair. Also consider the internal damage will take even longer to get back to normal

(according to the staff Twitter, ALL key animation papers in the first floor were burned to nothing)

And we aren’t even get to the staff injuries yet(we don’t know if the injured ones can recover 100% ) oh my, this will be a major blow to the animation industry regardless of whether you like Kyoani or not, a terrible entry to the Japanese animation history.

Condolences to KyoAni and the people that were affected by it. This will set the company back quite a bit, since there are things that insurance can't pay for, such as lost of progress and staff being injured. Hopefully they can recover from this as quickly as possible.

It really sucks to hear that this happened. But, how high is the chance that it was some disgruntled otaku (in the pejorative sense of the word) that wasn't happy with something in a series? I'm afraid to think it could've been fairly high. It could've also been an ex-worker trying to get revenge.

This is extremely depressing. This hurts my heart. This is a company that's done nothing but try to bring joy to people. How can someone do such a vile thing? Best wishes to KyoAni. I hope the injured can recover Sad

Several people have died which means he'll most likely get the death penalty.

I thought arson would have already netted the guy a death penalty over there.

Just terrible news no matter how you look at it. A company that brought joy to so many, and now lives devastated and ended. The cost on so many levels... the human cost, the artistic cost, the fact that no KyoAni employee will ever be the same after this. Terrible.

What an awful, senseless act. Condolences to all those effected by this.

Yeah, even without taking into count the injuries and deaths [at this point we don't know the extent or who was effected] it's going to take a lot of work and a lot of time for them to return to normal operations.

I can't believe this. What kind of disgusting person would do something like this? My heart goes out to all the friends and families of the victims.
