Hopefully Funi does some good translation notes for all the puns and jokes. I have faith they will though. Glad to finally see this show coming over this way.

No way man funimation is terrible i mean look at what happend to dbz there totally gonna ruin school rumble with terrible dubbing and their gonna edit it to pieces n leave out 9 episodes dats y im just gonna watch da fansubs Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Evil or Very Mad Twisted Evil

But seriously, who knows if we'll get explanations of the puns--the Kodocha discs don't have very many, and the ones that are there are in the subs themselves, not in any extras section. I'm sure the dub will be amusing, if not entirely faithful to the original dialogue.

That's why I was kinda hoping ADV would get the show. They a really good job on Excel Saga and I've heard that they did an amazing job on Azumanga Daioh as well.

We should get a decent box with it though. Funimation has been pretty good with the Box art. At least for the shows that I've been interested in from them.

The thing that I don't dig about ADV is that they put their 26 episode long series in 7 disks. I think with Funimation we could have School Rumble in 6 disks. The best thing that they could do is release it on 4 disks like Fruits Basket but that's not going to happen. They're gonna milk us you know, the slaves of the evil anime industry Twisted Evil

ADV doesn't put all of its 26 ep series on 7 discs; Excel Saga and Azumanga Daioh, both mentioned in this thread, are six discs, as are Moby-Dick, Kaleido Star 1st Season, Zone of the Enders, Nadesico, and a few other ADV series. ADV has also been moving towards 3 discs for 12-13 episode series, like Nanaka 6/17, Diamond Daydreams, Comic Party Revolution, and This Ugly yet Beautiful World. ADV certainly aren't the only ones "guilty" of doing 26 in 7, of course. Now, 24 on 7 or 24-26 in 8, those kinds of disc counts I will take issue with.

Fruits Basket was something of a failed experiment--Funimation was trying to see if fans would pay more ($39.95 MSRP originally) for discs with more episodes and lots of extras, Fans didn't, so the discs didn't sell that well until they dropped the price.

But, you run the risk of decreased video quality also. This has been an issue with a recent FUNimation release, but not associated with 6 episodes per disc. The only people that have to worry about being "milked" are the LE fans imo. Laughing

Compairing Funi from DBZ days and today is like night and day. Of course there are going to be some cultural jokes missed but I don't think they are going to do a bad job. Just look at how ADV handled MSA Abenoboshi. They did a great job IMO and Funi and ADV are pretty much tied together.
Will I watch it in Japanese? Most likely, but I always give the dub a chance and watch it too.

I only own three FUNi series but the subs on those all retain their honerifics and explainations for Japanese jokes/termonaolagy. The only thing to worry about is for those of us who like dubs or enjoy watching both sub and dub (I'm more the latter than the former) is "will the dub be liberal or faithful?"

Yes, they did do a good job on Azumanga. All the DVDs come with a pretty lengthy explanation on just about all the culture and kanji jokes in the series.

Wraps?

Artbox wise, FUNimation seem to be putting out some very high quality collectors boxes (Speed Grapher, Negima!, Basilisk, Trinity Blood), and have been using R2 coverart, so you shouldn't really worry about that sort of thing.

I meant covers. Embarassed

I like the work they do for Speed Grapher indeed (if they do the same thing for School Rumble, I'll like it too I think), but I don't like their boxes of Negima, Kiddy Grade, Dragon Ball Z... it looks like slapdash work. Confused

Let's wait & see. Smile

The highlight of my buying anime for 07. I'd seen the series in Japanese and it was great. I can only hope the dub is as good.
