If this is a port of the 3DS game with new content added in, this is great news for me as I never got to play the original Detective Pikachu game as I never had a 3DS. This announcement is also perfect timing for me as I'm finally going to see the movie tomorrow and really looking forward to it.

I don't think it's a port. I got the impression it was a sequel since the original ended on a cliffhanger.

Serebii.net is reporting that it’s going to be a sequel. Plus I played the game and they have very different endings already so they likely meant that the story in the sequel wouldn’t follow up the movie.

If it is a pure sequel, I hope they'll port the original to the Switch for those of us who didn't buy the 3DS game.

I read this announcement at Bulbapedia, man. I am hoping the ending will have the true secret disappearance of Tim's father for sure. We never saw his father on where did he disappeared at the time, i am hoping this one will be the true end than the film's counterpart.
