This movie is vintage 2004 and only has 60 ratings. Not very many people have seen this series and fewer who will care about the name change.

ADV's secret title generator... leaked!
@word = rand( { "blade", "warrior", "mask", "shadow", "demon", "phantom" } );
@phrase = rand( { "of the", "chronicles" } );
print @word + " " + @word + " " + @word;

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS BABY!!!! Now I can finally own this movie.
I really enjoyed this one. It's about DAMN time! I wonder if there was any more made to this feature?
But I have to admit the title does suck. But who cares so long as I can put it on my shelves!

Someone in the AnimeOnDVD forums mentioned that the title change "Blade of the Phantom Mask" corresponds to Utewarerumono, NOT Shin Angyo Onshi. He believes this movie is supposed to have the title "Shadow Warrior Chronicles", and since I've seen the movie, that name change makes A LOT more sense because it feature a male protagonist that can summon shadow warriors.
I have a big feeling he's right, and we're bitching over NOTHING!!!

Not "nothing" -- it would turn this thread from b*tching their lousy translation to their lousy marketing.
If you've read The Dilbert's Principle, you'd know that company's researchers (in the case of anime licensors: translators, timers, and other technical staff) hate marketers, for the latter often tell customers wrong information about prototype products.

I remember someone saying that it sounds like that's what happened or it would make more sense that way, but I don't remember anyone saying they thought it really was a mix up. Maybe it was after I last checked.
However, it WOULD make sense and I hope that is the case.

Well, apart from the fact that Hakuoro doesn't wield a sword, but this iron fan thingy (there's obviously a proper word for it, but I'm too lazy to look it up), yeah. Even then "Blade of the Phantom Mask" makes ten times more sense for Uta than "Shadow Warrior Chronicles". Let's hope this is all an unforunate mixup ^^;;

新暗行御史 are kanji that don't traditionally connect in Japanese. Shin Angyō Onshi literally translates to New Dark Line Honoured Chronicles. Shadow Warrior Chronicles is the more accurate title.
I am looking forward to seeing this movie, but I really do wish that Bandai, Geneon or Media Blasters had licensed this title. Then at least there would have been a good dub done by ZRO Limit or Bang Zoom! I really cannot stand ADV or FUNimation's voice talent. Guess I'll just be listening to the seiyū.

Someon made a list of all the characters with a little bit of info on them and his weapon was listed as a bladed fan, so it still works. A blade doesn't have to be a sword.

My memory might be the one that's going, but have you seen him slicing anything with his fan before?

No, for the simple reason that I haven't seen the series yet.
