I am excited for this. Death note is my favorite manga. After seeing Tokyo Godfathers, I have faith in Mad House's ability to adapt Death note. I wish theyd put up some screenshots or something though.

I would have thought they'd get a better time slot, but oh well.

Death Note is being done by Studio Madhouse!?! Awesome! They are perfect for this adaption. After having worked on Monster, Gungrave, and Paranoia Agent (all similar action/drama/supernatural animes in a sense), I have complete faith that they will do a great job with Death Note. October 3rd can not come soon enough. Hopefully this will get licensed soon and find its way on Adult Swim someday.

This should be a good adaptation. I hope to see it on American shores soon enough.

Ooooh...Miiiidnight...
Anyway, I can't see the Death Note anime not getting licensed, so I don't think there is any need to worry about that. Knowing that Madhouse also did Paranoia Agent, I am pretty excited for this.

I think that is pretty much a sure thing that Death Note will be licensed, but I wonder if anyone will bring the the Live Action movie here as well.

More happy news, what a good day it is. I've just been getting into Death Note manga after having digested Monster anime fansubs. Death Note would work better as an anime and we want it yesterday. Thanks Madhouse.

Only mad house I am familiar with is paranoia agent, but that was visually very impressive, so I am excited.
I am usually not one to obsess about a release and download the raws/first fansubs available, but this series has me psyched.
cadub77: There will be too many groups wanting to fansub this.

Bringing the live-action movie here will depend on whether or not the people running the record company which owns the Chili Peppers song are dicks about royalties. Although when I brought that up at the Viz AX panel, they just said, "No comment."

Negotiations in the works maybe? For me the big question is would they attempt to redo it with american actors (a HUGE undertaking) or more logically release it with subtitles and a dubbed track? Only release like that I can of recently is the cromartie high school live action movie, who's anime and manga both did well here. We can only hope.

thanks for the input, bennyb
I read that Cinema Topics Online has confirmed that there are plans for an American screening of these movies and even an American remake, depending on their commercial success.
okay, if an american remake.. who would play light?

I am fairly certain that Death Note will be licensed sometime in the future, but when is the question.
Anywho I haven't read any of the manga yet but this is one of the titles that I am definetly that I was looking forward to if it ever became an anime.

Nope all fansubber quit last week, there won't be anymore fansub for any titles at all. Just kidding around I am sure someone will take a shot at this series considering how popular the manga is.
