The Shana anime and manga are both based off of novel(s), right? I wonder if Viz is gonna snag the that/them, too.

Well, they annouced the Shojo Beat acquisitions at a diffrent time, so I'm hoping they have a couple of Signature titles for tommorow.

Ah, so there's still some hope.

Novels have more cost and are a greater risk. Since TP's disasterous treatment of the Slayers novels, I'm unwilling to trust any company to do novels except maybe SevenSeas (they have the Boogiepop novels).
Man, I really need to get down and start learning Kanji.

looks like viz got the novel to from animeondvd
Shakugan no Shana (or Red Eye’d Shana) is seeing double. Viz will be releasing both the manga and the light novel of this hot MediaWorks title (man my crystal ball is good). Definitely a cute fun action title that fit in perfectly with the now defunct Action imprint. Viz revealed that the anime has been picked up by someone else. No news yet if they have picked up Shakugan no Shana 0 and Shakugan no Shana S (two additional novels from the same property).

Viz actually seems to be looking towards novels right now (as are quite a few other publishers: Seven Seas, as you mentioned, Tokyopop's putting out a whole line of "light novels" under it's Pop Fiction imprint, Del Rey has expressed interest in publishing Japanese novels in conjunction with it's manga line, and the list goes on). They've published Socrates in Love and Kamikaze Girls, both of which are huge in Japan and carried a considerable "risk", the FMA novels, as well as announcements for more novels for their Sojo Beat Fiction line.
According to AnimeOnDVD, Viz has also liscensed Miyabe Miyuki's novel Brave Story, which makes me very excited. I've read all of her novels that have been translated into English, and I loved all of them. And as hikaru393 already mentioned, the original Shana novel has been picked up.

What did Tokyopop do? I'm disappointed with what they did to Kino No Tabi. Did they take things out or change the translation or just do a crappy job all around?

NOW they've licensed Count Cain? After releasing the end of the series? /shakes head/ Talk about spoilers... Although the art style's so different, maybe no one will notice.
I wonder if they'll serialize it. That'll play havoc with the magazine readership... and with the translators, when they realize that they mistranslated all the titles in the first volume of Godchild.
