One interesting note is that Kenichi Suzumura and Maaya Sakamoto were apparently married, and it is quite fitting enough that the respective characters they voiced (Romani and Leonardo da Vinci) do interact with each other.

They're still married! Or at least I don't ever remember hearing anything about them separating/getting divorced.
But I am also always pleased whenever they're in something together. It makes me smile to think about it.

If it wasn't a certainty after seeing the last character designs, this makes it conclusive that the same face issue is off the charts for this series. Hopefully they get off model often enough to overcome this issue.

You forgot to mention one little detail....
The first reveal was at the FGO panel at Madman Anime Festival Sydney!

I've played through the whole Fate Grand Order game and never got the feeling that there was a same face issue. So I'm guessing this is only noticable in close ups or cloverworks are nervous about animating many different character designs.
I know their Persona 5 adaptation had a lot of same face but i don't think it was that noticable if there was any at all in Darling in the Franxx

They did say in the FGO panel at MadFest that in the game the different characters are done by different artists, but they chose one to be concept designer for the tv series so its a bit more uniform, so that's where it may look similar between characters
