I hope they don't plan on cutting "langauge", "violence", and "sex" from this edition to make it family-safe...

I doubt it, although it could show up in a couple of years. I remember when I was graduating HS, one of my teacher made me (and my class) look up all the words that had officially became a part of the dictionary since we first started attending HS, that project sucked.
Till next time,

Ha ha Rolling Eyes

I think it's pretty interesting to know that the word has become enough of a part of the English language to merit being put in the dictionary. That really is pretty cool and a good sign of how anime and manga are both rising in the awareness of English culture as a whole.

Does this mean that newspapers won't have to italicize manga anymore?

from article:

manga (n) 1951: a Japanese comic book or graphic novel

Does this mean Tokyopop's PR people need a new term for OEL manga? Very Happy

I remember reading that "anime" is defined in one dictionary as "Japanese animation of the science fiction and fantasy genres" in Manga : Sixty Years of Japanese Comics. Does anyone know if that's ever been corrected?

I'm surprised it wasn't in the dictionary before.

Not until it becomes more popular first. Speaking of manhwa, doesn't it seem like nearly every manhwa artist rips off CLAMP's art style?

Oh, and hopefully this'll squash all of those idiots who keep saying "maynga".

There's a fairly extensive process that a word has to go through to be put into the dictionary (I was at a talk with one of the women who works on the Oxford Canadian Dictionary). Not sure if the same stuff would apply, but I know that a word had to be found in a fair number of varied printed sources to show that it was a part of the language.

I hope our world will never come to that.

I hope that Tokyopop and their Global "Manga" and Cine"manga" hears this.
