The article neglects to mention that the show is on hiatus, not technically cancelled, nor does it mention the reason being the animation studio being purchased by Sunrise as to why this has happpened.

Do you have a source for this? Bushiroad's announcement seems pretty straight forward:
I think it's a pretty bad sign that the manga's also been cancelled. That means if there is another cross-media push, it's likely going to start fresh. I understand the situation with Xebec, but Vanguard G switched animation studios between seasons. That doesn't sound like an impossible situation to fix. |

Future Card Buddyfight was a fun show from what I saw of it but it never seemed to catch on like other card game anime have done so I'm not surprised it's ending soon.

Id agree with this if the cardgame was dying/winding down like say Luck & Logic did, but they announced the Detective Conan crossover with Buddyfight among other things, and the tourneys continue to have Buddyfight and the card packs continue to get released, so it's not like it is not popular. Just totally baffled. |

How popular is it compared to shows like Yugioh or Cardfight Vanguard?

Compared to them, Buddyfight's kind of... falling, if I can explain it okay. |
