To think this spinoff movie gives us a taste of what English dub of Sound! Euphonium TV series would have...well, sound like.

Oh wonderful! This didn't get any screenings in my area which was a real bummer but glad it will hit Bluray.

Cool! I've heard great things about this one, so I'll be sure to buy it! Though I admit I haven't seen Euphonium's series, but I hear you don't need to in order to appreciate this movie. Honestly, I just want to watch something and finally get out of my two-year-long anime burnout.

Does that mean they bought the rights for the rest of the series from Pony Canyon now? Because it doesn't make sense otherwise.

They’ve only acquired the movie, as far as anyone knows. They haven’t announced anything beyond that. GKids licenses movies primarily though, so it’s pretty unlikely.

This is through the partnership Shout Factory has with Eleven Arts, not Gkids. It's the following:
PonyCan US licensed it from Pony Canyon (JP)
Eleven Arts sublicensed it from PonyCan US
Shout Factory is releasing it for Eleven Arts

Given that Eleven Arts hasn't licensed anything except for films, it's unlikely that the TV series would be released. It may be possible that Crunchyroll could re-license the home video rights from PonyCan US (like Sentai has done for Release the Spyce and Tsurune), but it's doubtful due to age and a lack of popularity among anime viewers.

Thanks. Meant to type Eleven Arts.

Amazing! Now I'll finally be able to watch AND own this film! Hopefully this means we may get a US release of A Silent Voice!

That and Volume 2 of the second season was only released 11/30/2018(1 month ago) by Ponycan US, so yeah.

It is not a spin-off.

The timeline order goes S1 to S2 to Liz/Finale. S1 and S2 take place during Kumiko's first year. While the latter takes place during her second year. You are expected to be familiar with the two main characters when you watch Liz given they feature prominently in the first four episodes of S2. That arc in many ways acts as setup for Liz by bringing to the forefront what is essentially going to be the core conflict of that movie.

It's still weird this is the only part of the Sound Euphonium franchise that will actually be affordable for most anime fans and to have an English dub.

At first I cheer, because hey, this film will be more accessible!
...Then I sigh, because it still isn't a home video release for A Silent Voice (the one I really want).
Then again, I suppose if this sells well, it might provide extra push for the other film's eventual release...?

A Silent Voice seems to be caught up in licensing limbo so I dn't think buying this will make releasing A Silent Voice any more likely. But it might still be a good idea to buy this to show support for the Sound Euphonium franchise and that American fans will support the franchise if they make the home video releases actually affodable and with a dub.
