Oooh, LA 18? I wonder if that wouldn't happen to mean Los Angeles area Channel 18 KSCI-TV. That'd be pretty cool then for those of us living in So. Cal.

We will never have any Anime channel ever in the KC area...EVER. We have anime on channels, or on pay-per view, but never any of these magical anime channels that seem like some far-distant dream, escpaing the reality of our situation. I've tried to stay positive about this, but every announcement digs a little deeper...

LA 18 appears to be KSCI-TV (channel 18) in Los Angeles. KSCI targets Asian-Americans. I checked their website schedule, however, and it doesn't show any anime running on June 19 or thereafter.
But since the feed to Dish Network would be digital, KSCI may be airing FUNi only on their digital broadcast service (KSCI-DT, channel 61, Long Beach, CA.) I looked up LA info in the FCC's TV station database and found there's no such animal as digital channel 18.3. But there is KSCI's digital channel 61.
Given its target market, KSCI appears to be the most likely identity for LA 18. I wish the ANN reporter had asked that question, though.
Other unknowns are whether the shows will be subbed or dubbed, and whether they'll be running a different episode each night or one premiere night followed by encores. At 5X/week, they'll burn through their initial weeknight titles in 3-5 weeks, while the weekend ones will last 7-13 weeks.
Also, we don't know how often the FUNi channel will repeat a show. I'm assuming there will be one repeat of each show and they'll split the titles between long and short shows, which would mean they'd need about 20 titles in their inventory to stay on air for 365 days. They'll have 8 titles to start with, so they'd need to bring up another dozen titles over the course of the coming year to keep the block fresh. If they repeated each show twice, then they'd only need to introduce a half-dozen new titles over the next year. FUNi currently has about a dozen more titles that don't have TV contracts.
FUNi took back the Case Closed license from Adult Swim so it has over 100 dubbed/subbed episodes of Conan to run, plus all the later Lupin series not included in their license with Adult Swim. However you look at it, the linear FUNi Channel is very do-able.
So the FUNi Channel will be on one satellite service and one broadcast TV station. It's a start. If they get a few more TV stations under their belt and cut a carriage deal with some major basic basic-cable network, the linear FUNi channel could be some real competition to Adult Swim. (^_*)

Now that is a beautiful lineup!! Four shows that I'd truely enjoy watching! I wish I had one of those channels...

Working on it. We decided to post what we had right away and update it shortly.
But You'll probably like what you hear... that is if you live in the LA area...

KSCI also has a translator in San Diego. K48AL-TV on channel 48. Since it's a translator, it's a really weak signal.

Does anybody know if you can get any of those channels on the regular Starchoice channels (as in the channels that you don't have to pay extra for) in Canada? I'd say it's doubtfull, because I have tried, but I won't give up looking until I know for sure.

I'm from Long Beach and LA 18 is channel 14 for me. I got regular basic cable from Charter. I'll be on the lookout for this anime block. LA 18 is a great network they showcase a lot of Asian programming with few commercials. It's as authentic as watching it in it's native country I don't think I ever seen any English dubs on this network it's mainly Raw or subtitled so I'm sure they will preserve the integrity of the animes and keep the content intact including the OP/ED themes. I usually watch this channel for Japanese drama and that HEY!HEY!HEY! music show.

Oh, awesome. About time they actually got this block underway; I was about to give up on it actually happening if I flipped over to Colours and saw that damn misleading "Asian Variety Show" (where apparently India is the only country in Asia; the damn show's all Bollywood) one more time.

*thwap*
FUNi never had a Lupin license with [as], those episodes were from Pioneer/Geneon.

Yes. It is KSCI-TV Channel 18.3. The official live date is June 19. They are running a few days early to get all the kinks out before we go official.

Hope it at least looks watchable. All the terrestrial subchannels that are on the air here look like overcompressed crap.
