Both boys have nice design. There will probably one more male because in previous teaser had three male bathroom symbol. I wonder how much this anime will be fujo friendly. (manga is in BL magazine) Also I'm curious if this anime will have prominent female character. I saw some cgdct/yuri fans that are upset that prominent male character exist in majority female cast shows. I wonder if fujo are the same?

After YoI I thought there will be much more anime with male homo undertones but nothing much changed. Well propably there aren't enough source material for that kind anime. Most BL are cheap porn/romance with one volume and original anime are risky.

English is not my native language.

Would this live-action style be more expensive than conventional background art?

@Super_M Even if we forget that the industry is more tolerant of female homosexuality than of male's, as the market is mainly focused on straight men, there have been relatively few shoujo anime lately. Therefore, first in the queue are more "normal" works.

Well, I am not yaoi fangirl, but I have heard that girls in sport shounen get quite a lot of hatred, and fangirls either ignore their existence or try to create yuri ships with them, lol.

I'm not sure but we know that Studio Pablo is doing the background art for this show so I'm unsure to the extent that the live-action style will be used.

Forget fujo friendly, I'm hoping for something gay male friendly. Or even just gay, because there's only so many times I can sit through Ikuhara examining the gay experience from the female perspective without wondering how he (as a man) would handle a story about [not bi or depraved, just ordinarily] gay men.

Though it could just be that nobody in Japan will let him.

I'm very glad that Ikuhara is finally tackling same-sex love of the male kind in depth for once. The Yuri Well was starting to run a bit dry for him as of Yuri Kuma Arashi and when his pupil's Revue Starlight was executing his signature style with far better effect than his own last effort than that is usually a sign that a director or writer may need to learn some new tricks and change things up which Sarazanmai looks hopefully to be.

Also it looks like he also watched and loved Devilman Crybaby. That is most definitely Koki Uchiyama and Ayumu Murase (Akira and Ryo) as the leads.

Has that actually been stated anywhere, though? Not that I don't want it, I do, but I'm not quite ready to count my chicks before they've hatched.

AH. That's who it was. Yeah, those two get cast together a lot.

In fact, no one yet knows the plot or the central theme of the upcoming show. People simply combine the reputation of Ikuhara or MAPPA and the presence of two male protagonists, and from here they conclude that this will be BL.

Also that the manga for it is published in a BL magazine by his co-creator who is a BL mangaka.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree. There's been a lot of at least arguably gender neutral series lately and there's still a decent amount of female audience focused series. Male Idol Master is doing extremely well.

Also I strongly disagree with Yuri being more accepted than Yaoi. Yaoi is way more popular in both the best the West and in Japan. There's a reason why series like Love Love won't ever have a confirmed same sex relationship, the very male fans you speak of would lose their collective minds if their waifu was gay. For example, people are unfortunately still mad about Tracer being gay. Tracer's girlfriend might be the most hated character in Overwatch for this reason.

Yuri series are still very niche and don't earn nearly as much as Yaoi. Queen's Blade and series like it aren't Yuri, they're straight up fan-service and intended to be highly sexual. The male audience you're talking about are fine with girls kissing and feeling each other's breasts or whatever, but they almost always want a male character to be the center of attention at the end of the day. These are the same males that don't a female main character a lot of the time.

I could write an essay on this subject for hours, but this is all I'm gong to say. It's cool if you disagree with me, I simply wanted to share my perspective as it's one that I've gained from
many debates with people over the years and seeing how a lot of communities act.

@Samiamiam You are definitely didn;t confusing this with Nokemono to Hanayome, which is really co-written with BL-mangaka?

@HoboSoup We are talking about different things, as the Western and Japanese mentality is different. Up to the questions of terminology, for example, many Japanese yuri fan attributed to yuri not only open lesbian relationship, but also stories about idealized friendship / strong emotional bonds.

And if we are talking about the West, then I did not notice any strong intolerance towards the possible homosexual orientation of the heroines. On the contrary, I have seen many occasions when the alleged "gay" was portrayed as a very attractive point of all-female work. At the same time, several times I saw how yaoi vibes was perceived as “fujo food” with negative connotation.

However, if we are talking about idol titles outside the shiper community, then maybe your words make sense. Although I have heard that in Love Live's fandom the denial of girls' homosexuality is considered to be fandom heresy.

Calling Misaki Saitō a "BL mangaka" is probably reductive but she has written BL. (Though most of what she makes is just lots of cute boys with BL vibes but no actual BL) And Rutile is obviously a BL magazine.

I just can't find a single mention of the manga adaptation of the upcoming show. Not to mention the fact that none of the news doesn't contain a synopsis, and teasers are trying to tease with a minimum of information.

UPD. I found a mention in the article. But then I have a question, maybe this is just Yaoi-bait like Banana Fish?

Uh sorry you didn't know but it was announced when Leo/Mabu designs were announced. You can find an article on it here on ANN animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-05-17/kunihiko-ikuhara-original-tv-anime-sarazanmai-reveals-character-designs/.131674 or just like go to ikuharas twitter. https://twitter.com/ikuni_noise/status/1047886030827749376 He tweets about it every month when a new chapter comes out.

And I guess it could be just bait but this is Ikuhara we are talking about.
