So, finally, does someone have the 27 missing spots in the list ?
It seems Saiyuki and Heidi are among them.
Yeah, I know, it was 10 years ago...

This list is nulled since Love Hina is on it.
Seriously, though, it's hard to put any faith in a list that doesn't have ANYTHING from the 2006-2008 period. No TTGL, Black Lagoon, Moribito, Toradora, 5cm/s, nothing from beyond 2000. Hell, two of the ones from 2000 seemed really tacked on. You're telling me neither FLCL nor Fighting Spirit could grab a spot over Love Hina or Sakura Wars? I can only imagine the average age of the people making this list.
Also, they like Try the best out of the Slayers franchise? I like it, but I always thought Special and Excellent (the two OVA series) were the best. The first movie is also really good.

Hahah! That was my same line of thought. It doesn't make it any better that Eva, HxH, and OP are just a few slots ahead of Love Hina, rofl.

Dude. Did you see the date on this thing? It was made in 2001, the hell'd you expect?
But even then, it's still a shit list.

Any list that has Gundam Wing ahead of Vision of Escaflowne warrants an automatic Fail in my opinion.
Honestly, I've never seen a list on top Anime (or top anything for that matter) that I can generally agree with (there's always going to be various quibbles and the odd title left out or put in that arguably should not have been). They're either made by fanboys (and fangirls) who pick their favourites over what is actually good, or they are made by "experts' who are out of touch with what people actually like. Either way, I grind my teeth or roll my eyes or have a quiet snigger, and move on with my life.

Wow, I went to reply to the article after reading it and it said "7 years old" and.. wow, necrobump.
Anyway, "in order of importance" lists are pretty boring, since most of the top spots are just technical achievements or firsts, which may or may not actually hold up to this day. You have to admit, Love Hina was probably one of the first well known/big harem series. It sure was when I remember it was first fansubbed. That and Tenchi were all the rage.
...Though I find it hard to believe Japan would list that US travesty of the Digimon Movie.. I assume they meant the first one in Japan? Or Our War Game?

This listing is no ranking. More a chronological order of "The 100 animes of the 20th Century that you have to see before dying".

I wonder how many people today knows what "rec.arts.anime.misc" stands for.

Do you happen to have the original list on Animage? I tried various Googling techniques yet only gave me two looong 2ch discussion threads.

I concur. With the exception of a few "strays" (e.g. five Ghibli titles were grouped together from 43-47; understandable, as both Ghibli and Animage were under Tokuma Shoten), most titles were listed in a chronological order.

No, I have not. I deduct Saiyuki was the missing 92th spot, because (as revealed in another news) it was 2nd in the readers poll, who refers to the spots 91-100.
For Heidi, someone on the Google group who revealed the partial list said that Heidi was on the full list, as he could remember. And Heidi is not on the partial list.
Problem is, the guy who posted the partial list never gave a link to see the full list, despite other people asking.
