Chaps, chaps. Before we succumb to any fury effected by this news, just picture the following concept: the line "snooping as usual, I see", but delivered in the sleek, undulating cadence of Ace Ventura's voice. Surely everyone stands to benefit!

Because if there's one thing Dr. Robotnik is known for, it's his slim physique.

Why would there be fury? An absurd casting in an absurd movie sounds like a fun time to me.

Ace Ventura?? "Dumb & Dumber To" labor-of-love aside, Carrey hasn't done "normal" studio roles since "Mr. Popper's Penguins".
And even then, it's usually to grab a quick inoffensive paycheck to subsidize some creepier, fringier indie project he wants to do.

I'm guessing Robotnik is also CGI, which lets him do a couple days of studio voice-work in as funny a Baltic voice as Peter Sellers could ever manage.

Special effects and makeup artists exist to handle situations like this and have done so without much problem in the past many times, so I don't see the issue here.

As if this had prevented Eddie Murphie from playing in the Nutty Professor, and for Martin Lawrence - in the Big Momma's House...

Cool. One more reason to avoid this like the plague.

The more I hear about the development of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie the more I wonder if the people making it have seen the games. The choices they make are so counter intuitive that it feels like the people making it were given a single brief paragraph about the franchise. I think that an adventure movie would have been a better choice but considering that they went with Jim Carrey for Dr. Robotnik it sounds like it is going to be a comedy movie.

To be fair, even though Sonic Boom was a terrible series of games the TV Show can actually be pretty hilarious with how self-aware it is. Point is: lately it seems like Sonic as a franchise can’t even take itself seriously, so it would be better for this movie if it didn’t as well.
