If MegaTokyo's so popular, why does it keep changing publishers?

Isn't Megatokyo being published by Dark Horse? I'm confused...

I'm guessing DC offer more money to license the title? I know title Marvel have been known to license popular Image title like Kabuki and Powers along with the writer. But anyways, many people been begging for Emma and now you beggers have it. Before everyone go doubting cmx and saying it will be edit because of TenTen, keep in mind that the other cmx's adult title have been edit free. Maybe they learn their lesson. Shin Lone Wolf & Cub ~LONE WOLF~
by: Koike Kazuo/Mori Hideki Now that's some good new, as I remember seeing snippet of the comic on DH's forum. Also I've been wanting to import the Samurai Champloo Roman Album but I guess I'll just pick up DarkHorse's version. Small S magazine and Kurosagi Delivery of Corpse? Interesting. |

Empty Empire is "Kara no Teikoku", right? I've heard good things about it, so I'll look forward to that release.
I still don't understand the hype around MegaTokyo, but that's a whole different story... :\ |

As someone who reads an unhealthy amount of American comics and has a good knowledge of the industry, my I'd bet that DC offered Gallagher more money and that's the reason for the switch. DC has the money to spend, and, since CMX hasn't really done a good job to appeal to manga fans, aquiring the already popular Megatokyo is a step in the right direction.

Good to see Emma licenced. As for Darkhorse's licences, I have mixed feelings, as they seem to be getting into the trend of licencing only old-school seinen titles (not that there's anything wrong with that, but they get pretty old and I'd rather see them focusing on more experimental stuff). I'm interested in the SS mag though.

Emma is arguably the most important of the acquisitions. It doesn't appear to fall into a recognisable niche with the fan audience (unless you have a maid fetish, something that displeases me); it's historical, it's a romance, it's serious. But it's both critically and popularily praised, and recently won an award.
To me its presentation is as important as the adaptation. It has a dust jacket with wrap around art, and the paper has more texture to the touch than most tankubons. It's printed in sepia shades, adding to the character of the volume. It doesn't fit with the current format of CMX, so how DC handle it will be interesting. Widya Santoso -- Compared to Emma, Megatokyo really isn't important. |

Interview with Gallagher here http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=34c696bc13825b53fece13404e8c40f2&threadid=61060
This clears things up some for me. |

Short version: Studio Iron Cat died, and Dark Horse was on a book-by-book basis. Fred thinks that he can do better work by sticking with a larger and stabler publisher who is also interested in distributing his future works (like Warmh). |

Has CMX stopped censoring stuff other than Tenjho Tenge?
