The word "butler" was misspelled in the title as "buttler". I thought it said "butter cafe". I'm thinking "A cafe that specializes in butter? What will those wacky Japanese think of next?"

So, is this another instance of giving alcohol to alcoholics? Is there really a butler fetish over there?

I personally think that both sides need to go into psychotherapy.

The official site doesn't have any pictures, so I have to wonder about the, ahem, "service" level... At least where I come from, "classic image of a perfect butler" doesn't include qualities like "drop dead gorgeous," "charming" or "sweet to ladies," which I would think necessary for any good "service cafe."

(But then, maybe they model their "perfect butlers" on characters like Riff from Earl Cain...)

I'm curious what the butlers would look like too... I'm guessing they would have a slight bishounen air to them. (I really doubt that when they use the term 'butler' they are referring to the image of good ol Alfred from Batman though, hehe).

Anyhows, having a 'butler cafe' created in contrast to all those 'maid cafes' make sense. There are so many mangas based with maid charas, it's not unusual to know that there is a good # of mangas based on charas who work in cafes as well: Antique Bakery, Gokurake Cafe, Cafe Kichijouji de...

I admit I clicked the link also on the search for pictures. Where are those strapping young, hot bishie japanese men we've been promised? er, I mean, the "butlers"....ahem.

It will be interesting to see if the cafe is successful or not. I assume the maid cafes probably do very well.

Yeah, I'm sure all the girls has fantasy of going at it with their butler when her father is away. Just like a porno movies. Wink

I think I'll stick with the local asian cafe we have here with hot chicks in bikini.

Yeah, I wish there were pics too, I am just curious to see the flipside of a maid cafe. I forgot where I read it, I think I did a google search for the Butler cafe and something said that the age of the butlers were in their 60s? So I think that may crush the bishie aspect it could have had.

If they were young, androgenous and top-hatted, I'm so there.

Since they're in the process of hiring, I understand why they don't have pictures of the "butlers." Look for pics of the guys and the shop closer to their opening date at the end of March.

Erm, 'Remains of the Day' is an English novel. (Its author is Japanese, but he's been living in England since he was a small child.) Also, the butler in the novel is more than middle-aged.

Anyway, I don't really see how a cafe that employs middle-aged men would be any "flip-side" to maid cafes and the like. I mean... yeah, I guess it's nice to be served and stuff, but I suspect their customers would rather see handsome, charming young men instead of late-middle-aged, "proper" gentlemen. (I know I would. Ah well, it's not like I'll visit the place in the near future...)

So 80+1 is maids dressed as butlers catering to women? I'm really not looking forward to hearing about a cafe where butlers dress as maids catering to men, they seem to have enough of those in Japanese bars.
