So will you be able to watch Steins Gate 0 without having seen any of the movie then?

Dear Karen Ressler

Most of Steins Gate takes place in the Beta World Line. The Alpha World Line is the one where Kurisu dies, the Beta one is the one where Mayuri dies. Steins Gate is the world line where no one dies, there's no WW:III and Sern doesn't take over the world.

Steins Gate Zero takes place in the Alpha World Line where Kurisu dies. Might want to make a few edits.

No need to watch the movie! It's an anime original, so it should have no bearing on the story from the game.

No, I got it right in the article. Beta = Kurisu dies, Alpha = Mayuri dies, Steins Gate = no one dies. Steins;Gate 0 is in the Beta world line.

You're right, I was confused for a second, after reading the article.

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to the new series but I've never seen the movie, so I'm glad it's not needed to enjoy the new show.

Well it is confusing because the Beta Worldline is actually the original one. But Suzuha came up with the names, and from her point of view the timeline where Mayuri dies and SERN takes over the world is the original.

Bit of an aside, but besides watching the original anime, people might want to give a listen to the ANNCast ep about this show.

animenewsnetwork.com/anncast/2015-03-20/.86157

I had watched the show, and was confused about why a couple of the characters were even in it, and finding out it was based on a multi path/get all the girls Visual Novel thingy cleared that up.

Surprised it wasn't mentioned in the article that Suzuha Amane's character and alias, John Titor and his/her search for the IBM 5100 is based on real life lore

This is a useful resource for those who aren't willing to turn to illegitimate sources in order to watch episode 23b. I'm not sure why neither Crunchyroll or Funimation have a legal way to see this pretty important alternate episode.

I guess to be fair you're kind of supposed to remember Fubuki, since while she debuts in 0 she's actually mentioned in the original. Not that she's especially important anyway.
