My guess is the extreme popularity of Rem is a factor. However, just because you have a more popular character, that doesn't mean they are the lead girl. Emilia is that, not Rem. |

Out of the three arcs the anime adpated, the maids got the last two. Moreover, Rem got the last one to her alone after going full deredere as well as that moe and slightly pitiful confesion scene. Emilia's perfect introduction can't compete against that. spoiler[But Ram is best twin] |

Get Snubbed!
Personally I thought she was a good character for awhile, but she's up against many other more developed ones as well. She is just something chased after and not interacted with as much. I'm sure the novels or sequels will give her more time later. But right now...Not enough. |

Without spoiling details, the future starts looking a lot better for Emilia. The next arc does give us more Ram and even Petra (Petra is more like a daughter to Subaru than a waifu), but it introduces one of Emilia's toughest turmoils yet, and it's something she has to face without Subaru, which bothers Subaru, knowing he CAN help, but he shouldn't. Personally, Emilia is my favorite, even going by the events covered in the anime alone. She is a bit childish in her motives, yet extremely mature in her empathy and carefulness. She's genuinely smart and knows when to rely on Subaru and when to tell him to shove off before he makes real mistakes. She cares about personal growth as much as she cares about empathy, and is willing to go the uncomfortable route to reach new heights. Rem, while she appealed to the crowd attracted to devotion (and rightly so), never felt like someone able to challenge Subaru as a person like Emilia can. And I am usually a maid type of guy. Elves are cute, but not really up there with the maid girl type. So Emilia genuinely impressed me. |

I don't think Emilia deserves any hate as a character, but I do admit I think she's only just okay as a character. I do prefer Rem as well as Beatrice, Crusch, and Felt over Emilia (I would put Emilia over Ram but granted Ram didn't get much development in the anime, I assume the later novels do more with her).

Emilia is my best girl too, at least from the anime-adapted story so far. There's just this mystery surrounding her, something that might be dark or tragic or depressing, but she kinda managed to hide it, sometimes I also felt like she's faking it, expression, appearance and all, and that's just something that I can relate. The way I sometimes kinda see some sadness in her smile, makes it feel like she hid some potentially great character depth, as well as stories to tell. All that said, what I sensed is genuine noble intent she emitted.
She might be quite a self-sacrificial person too just like Subaru, only more low-profile as she doesn't want to bother anyone and prefer to keep the burden only to herself. Welp, all those things might be just me and my desired fantasy

It's not snubbing.
For context, the twins having their birthday next month on 2nd there is a weeklong event to celebrate it happening. They combining it with Valentine's day and winter events. The same thing was done with Emilia's birthday several months ago and was barely of the twins but IIRC ANN mentioned it, but didn't cover the result of the event. But it was a pretty big deal when it happened. Emilia is actually quite popular despite amount advertising Rem may get it at times.
Well, as someone who has read ahead I can tell you aren't too far off. The anime provides enough hints. |

It seems that Rem and Ram have so many events going on that there just wasn't enough room left to give Emilia equal exposure in the spotlight. Oh well, maybe next time...
