Tell me about it. The pictures I saw of the manga looked alot better. The story also sounded like it was more of a media satire in the vein of the classic Network, though that could have been overstated.

It's actually pretty funny IMO. I rented the original DVD years ago and laughed my ass off. If you want good looking characters then keep looking, but if you just want a good chuckle then you might want to try this out.

Nah, the chara designs are pretty close to the manga.

The live-action movies, on the other hand, seem to have some slightly cuter people and the media satire is a little bit more prominent.

So do you recommend it/them, and are there more than one?

I think this show is hysterically funny, but I've noted that not everybody can appreciate these kinds of comedies. If you can't appreciate the humor you'll just get stuck on the odd character designs and other details such as the almost complete lack of sex (as the reviewer said, this is not quite hentai). I would say it's worth a rent, and if like me you find it hysterical, buy the DVD. However, note that there's an earlier DVD out there with crappy sound and some minor technical faults. The re-release was probably done to fix those problems.

There are 2 live-action movies that I know of. I've seen them on local TV with English subtitles and with the titles The Weatherwoman and The Weatherwoman Returns (I think the Japanese titles are something like "Otenki Oneesan" and "Otenki Oneesan R")

The first one keeps most of the casually cruel attitude of the manga and anime, and most of the story.

I prefer the second one, which is pretty much unrelated (call it a "thematically similar re-interpretation" Wink ). I like this one because of the more gentle tone.

But could anyone tell me if this is a ecchi or hentai? I'm looking forward to picking this up at AnimeMatsuri2008 next month, and I just got into ecchi last year. From what I read at animertic.com( who reviews hentai and some ecchi)there's mostly only fanservice and some masturbation.

If this is ecchi or hentai? Is it good? And how graphic is the sex humor?

This one kinda straddles the line between ecchi and hentai, but it falls just a little short of being fully graphic enough to properly call it hentai. It's in the same category as Futari Ecchi/Step Up Love Story.

From what i've read the sex mostly consists of masturbation scenes( http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/weatherreportgirl.php)and girl/girl action( meaning suble foreplay rather then sex) is this also true?
Speaking of Futari Ecchi, the sex on there is fairly raw. I can pretty much call that a softcore hentai.

I just purchased WRG this weekend, and can honestly say that alot of things in the review are inaccurate. First all This is not a hentai and isn't nowhere near close to it all all spoiler[Just because the O.A.V. has a few masturbation scenes, and some very brief and subtle girl-on-girl action] doesn't automatically make it a hentai. Instead, it's a ecchi pure and simple and a incredibly funny and enjoyable one I might add.

I like the character designs, remember that this O.A.V. was made in the mid 1990s( Production date is listed as August 1994) so there's nothing wrong with the female character designs other then the fact that they haven't aged quite well.

Also, considering the fact that the character designs were done by a woman, this means that the O.A.V. was probably aimed at women in Japan since it contains alot of spoiler[ sorority-style humor, where the liberated sex-pot protaganist Keiko makes her female boss Michiko her toy and servant and has some catfight scenes with her rival Kaori]

I think the popluar misconception is that it's hentai stems from both the manga which is basically a soft-core yuri-like sorority where the women one up eachother by having thier way with eachother, and the dub in which the english actors use psydonyms probably becasue they thought there were dubbing a hentai since it was dubbed in NY it's probably fare to assume that these are CPM V.A.s.

In reguards to the sexaul content, it's nothing near the level of Futari H, it's more on the level of "Speed Grapher" and "Sprite: Between Two Worlds" and as far as the maxminium level of content, it's above "Agent Aika" and "Eiken", and below Futari H. Which explains it's 17+ rating.

If your looking for a hentai, look elsewhere. WRG is a sophistcated ecchi with great fanservice and charming characters i'd recommend it for anyway in ecchi. Don't think has enough nudity and fan service? Get the live action version.
