From a fiscal standpoint, this can't be surprising.
Personally, I'm just glad we have the Zeta movies coming out.

This is the greatest news for x-mas since I read about this yesterday. I hope it is true and I do hope the 3rd season will finish of the SEED series.

Considering that the SEED series is based on the original Gundam series, this shouldn't be much of a surprise. For those of you who have seen GSD:Final Plus, it completely hints a 3rd series. You'll see Lacus now in control of ZAFT with Yzak escorting her. Also, Shinn and Lunamaria join together with Kira and the gang at ORB to build a better tomorrow.

I was hoping Destiny would be the last I would see of SEED, at least for a while. Not that I didn't like SEED and Destiny, but after copying the plots of the original Gundam and Zeta Gundam, what's next, ZZ Gundam? I hope not, ZZ Gundam wasn't a series worth borrowing plot from, in my opinion.
There was an interview with the Bandai president mentioned here on ANN not too long after the merger between Bandai and Namco about the future of Gundam in Japan, Europe and America (November 2005, just checked). I sort of had my hopes up when the president seemed to think that it was time to move away from SEED and back to the origin (Even a remake with modern technology), but I guess it just didn't seem like the right time. After all, a remake of the original Gundam would be too similar to the newer SEED series, and since SEED re-used alot of old MS designs, releasing new models of the same mobile suits would be pointless

It makes sense I suppose, but I was hoping on the rumors that the next Gundam would be UC based. Unless the Zeta movies were what they referred to...
I haven't even finished the first one. I got to episode nine before I fell out of it, and when I tried to get back into it, episode ten had to be the most cliched episode I'd ever seen.
Hopfully they won't be so Gundam happy this time. Judging by the models at my local store, each character seems to have five personal machines.

Well, I'll probably watch it.
I just hope that the storyline will be solid.

Get rid of Fukuda and get rid of Hirai "I can't draw more than 3 faces" Hisashi. That would be a start.
Get someone who can make some original designs and get a director who can make an original story.
SEED Destiny had no establishment of main character and they just recycled designs from not only previous Gundam series' but the previous season of SEED as well.

Unless this ends up being an Astray series, this will go down as the worst piece of news, anime-wise, that I've heard all year. SEED Destiny was nothing short of awful, and I can't help but think that a continuation of the main SEED storyline—if kept under control of the current creative team and picking up at the point Destiny left it off at—could only be worse. And considering Destiny's already put an irreparable dent in how I view the entirety of SEED, I dread to think what a sequel to it would do to my view of Gundam as a whole.

You should try easing back on the hyperbole and relax a bit.
Destiny derailed midway and fell apart (yet was still a commercial success and liked by the majority regardless) and shouldn't be taken as anything more than that.
ZZ Gundam is the worst Gundam series ever made, yet that didn't spell the end for Gundam, nor did it retroactively lessen the series that proceeded it. Destiny isn't the first bad Gundam series and it won't be the last bad series either.
From various interviews and things they seem to have at least acknowledged some of their problems, such as the juggling of two casts, the return of the old being the thing which ultimately completely ruined the show, among other things.
It pretty clearly needs a complete cleaning out of the writing team - other than that, there's no reason why a third season would automatically be bad. Hell, Destiny's end was such a world reset that for all intents and purposes the show didn't even happen - everything just went back to how it was after the first series, with all major factions crushed except the old 'heroes' (if you can call them after their pretty insideous and decidedly un-heroic actions in Destiny) faction.

If they end up making another SEED series, I hope they put new people in charge and fix the the crap they pulled in Destiny (read:Athrun and Cagalli get back together among other things). I'll watch it, but my expectations will be very low, and very guarded.

Actually, Turn-A Gundam is the worst Gundam series ever made.
Another in the Seed series, huh?
Can't say I am not all surprised. However, I am indeed happy. I had alot of unawnsered questions at the end of Destiny, and I hope they get awnsered in the new series.
I am looking forward to it, alot. I think Seed is the greatest series so far, much better than the original. However, most Gundam enthusiests would disagree with that. I just think Seed is better, period.

I just want these answers answered before I happen to watch this new series in the future:
1. Will there be another Gundam stolen? (eg. MS, Z, ZZ)
2. Another masked villain? (eg. Char, Rau Le Creuset)
3. Will the Gundam be using the connecting-thingy-laser--majiggy?
(eg. ZZ, Impulse)
4. I hope Asuka gets sick (not a question, eg. Kamille)
5. I've heard a rumor saying a long time ago about a sequel called "Gundam Seed Eternity", in my opinions it's just a mere fanfic created by some fan boy of the Gundam series, but is it somehow related to this?
6. I hate Gundam ZZ, will I hate this too?
End of questions. My most favorite G-series is Z Gundam ~ and I don't like it getting copied or making something similar to it, if it does, it's gotta' be something I'll like
