It's absolutely sickening that there is so little buzz around this movie |

"Sickening" is kind of an odd way to put it, but... if there's a lack of interest, it's probably because it's a superficially similar concept to Kiki's Delivery Service made by a Ghibli spinoff company. It's hard to tell whether it's more new/interesting than it looks.

Heh heh..
Funny you guys say there's "no interest" in this film. I say that's your perception. My take is 180-degrees reversed based on what I'm seeing for ADVANCE ticket sales for this movie. The tickets ARE selling out fast!!! You might want to check the link to the official Fathom Events ticket site for this film for your local area, OR type in the postal code for a friend's home out of curiosity. There's a link to the advance tickets site from The Right Stuf's website IF you can't find Mary and the Witch's website online. My area of the country has three theaters showing this film on January 18th at 7PM and 8PM. THE EXHIBITIONS ARE ALREADY HALF SOLD OUT with 10 day before the film shows! One theater still has open seats, one theater sold out at BOTH times, and the last has seats still open for the 8PM showing. What does THAT tell you about the level of interest in my area (at least)? I can't speak for other areas but judging from what happened with Fate/Heaven's Feel in November and December there's definitely a pent-up interest for seeing SOME anime features in theaters instead of waiting until the official home video release (which will inevitably be longer AND more expensive for certain films like Heaven's Feel). I couldn't get a ticket for Mary and the Witch's Flower in the theater closest to me because they were sold out at BOTH times! |

that's good to hear. I hope it does well.
it's the only anime movie in years with this level of insane whimsy and art direction. Even Ghibli hasn't made something this interesting-looking since like, Howl's. i guess people just want sameface anime school kid drama in contemporary tokyo these days current anime market is t r a sh |

I am importing the movie when it comes out to video in Japan in March. Still for those that want to see it in theaters and not have to shell out as much as I have to for getting this, all the power to you.
