That....is quite a drop for Blood Blockade season 2, this drop isn’t normal at all, if Shingeki season 2 drop is due to 4 loooooooong years of wait, what is the reasoning behind BBBB?

Female fans losing interest. Wait till you see the drop for Osomatsu-san.

That is one reason, another at least partially is the ever increase in stream and digital download.

Shows like "Ninja Slayer" didn't do so well in home video sales but got millions of views on official Japanese streaming sites. Even with said sites getting revenue from the ads, how the rights holders can get their money back is probably with merchandise.

I agree that this is a big drop for BBB, but sequels to successful hits doing not as good is becoming the norm. Also, almost 7k is about what was reasonably expected and not bad considering how much Japan disc sales have dropped the last 2 years.

Umaru and BBB both way below their original season first week average, let alone the v1 first week sales.. Sequels just seem to do less and less each year. And yeah, Osomatsu S2's first volume numbers are sure to be quite shocking.

The same reason everything from SnK or Osomatsu to Love Live is dropping. Physical media is dying.

As noted by others, physical media is not what it once was. People saying that AoT's drop for season 2 was because of the 4 year wait are missing the biggest factor. Physical media's relevance has simply decreased dramatically over the last 4 years. And it will only decrease more. That's why BBB&B is seeing the same trend. It's compounding both the evolution of how people domestically are now consuming their anime, as well as your standard sequel drop. The exact same things that caused AoT2's drop.

It seems that as streaming became more frequent, physical media is has become more obscure...

I wonder what the physical media market would look like 20 years from now regarding these trends?

20 years? In 5 years anime physical media could be in its last legs.

It does make you wonder how much smaller the collector base will become, because a few thousand copies is already a pretty tiny number!
I know a lot of people say physical media will never die, but it will have to undergo some major changes at some point if the numbers keep dwindling because printing less than 1000 discs is already pretty difficult and cost-prohibitive when even possible.
