A comfy all-girls anime about girls heading to the South Pole. This could be my most favorite anime of winter.

I... don't think that's true. |

I've paid no attention to this one before now, but...the South Pole? You've got my intrigue.

Wonder what the reason for them going there will be-I was under the impression it's difficult to go there unless you're a scientist or the like.
Still, I've often tried to imagine what it would be like to be holed up on a polar station for months on end. -60°C, dark all the time, no way to leave... |

For the record, the low Earth orbit (LEO) of the International Space Station (ISS) is less than 400 km above the surface of Earth. The direct distance from Yokosuka (homeport of icebreaker Shirase) to the South Pole is about 14,000 km. |

If you take the view that we are in the Universe, the distance is always zero so the South Pole is farther. If you assume they are talking about the centre of the universe, then that's in Idaho which is 8000km from Yokosuka so, still closer than the South Pole.

To add to dormcat's post, look up the Kármán line. Per its Wikipedia entry "The Kármán line, or Karman line, lies at an altitude of 100 km (62 mi; 330,000 ft) above the Earth's sea level, and commonly represents the boundary between the Earth's atmosphere and outer space."
It was named after a Hungarian-American Jew named Theodore von Kármán (5/11/1881-5/6/1963) who specialized in astronautics and aeronautics. |

Uplifting atmosphere and music is reminiscent of the show Space Brothers. I'm really looking forward to see how this series will pan out.
