No, no, no, Ichita, anime is supposed to "Contribute to NEET-dom and pedophilia", get it right, fer cryin' out loud, sheesh! Razz

(Like certain other of our presidential candidates of past elections, Yamamoto seems to be telephone-game grabbing what he heard working for other issue-candidates and getting them basically wrong by himself.)

Spying on anime fans would be a violation of privacy rights. I also fail to see what the case cited has any connection with anime.

How about the novel Mouryou no Hako, adapted to anime by Madhouse in 2007? It features a serial killer who chops up the bodies of his young female victims and displays them in wooden boxes around a small Japanese city. When I read about this real-life serial killer in the New York Times the other day, I immediately thought of Mouryou no Hako.

It's not like written Japanese fiction hasn't had a gruesome strain either. The Wikipedia article for Edogawa Rampo, often called the "Arthur Conan Doyle of Japan," observes that
Quote:
during the 1930s, he began to turn increasingly to stories that involved a combination of sensibilities often called "ero guro nansensu", from the three words "eroticism, grotesquerie, and the nonsensical".

Mythology should also be outlawed. As well as other forms of storytelling.

In fact, anything not work related should be outlawed. Hell, don't even leave your cubicle. There's a chance something could happen, so we should reduce it to zero.

Following his logic should we stop teaching history since people might repeat it?

Bullcrap. Media and entertainment don't cause or contribute to crimes. Take it up with the people who actually commit crimes instead of trying to use media as a convenient scapegoat.

I doubt that politician even believes what he is saying and it is simply a convenient excuse for more online surveillance. The answer to crime somehow always ends up being more government power.

If we're blaming games and anime, why stop there? Pretty much every form of media has been used to portray grotesque crimes.

He said that games have an influence on criminal activity when people become unable to distinguish between the fictional and real worlds.

This is not the fault of the game, but the person with these mental issues. Same goes with anime.

Quote:
Yamamoto said that stories with grotesque crime similar to the Zama serial murder case exist in anime.

Implying that the killer used this particular anime as inspiration. Though, even if he did, this is still not the fault of the anime, but the person affected by it.

Quote:
He believes such content can influence people to commit crimes in the real world.

Maybe for a tiny, even minuscule minority this may be true, but certainly not for the overwhelming amount of gamers/anime fans. If that were true, we'd have far more cases of killers and rapists who become brainwashed by games or anime.

Quote:

Right, because that will definitely catch all those dirty rapists, killers and whatever not. Never mind going after actual criminals, let's monitor social media and arrest anyone who says nasty stuff online, that''ll show them! Rolling Eyes
