Awesome, glad she's back.

Also, those couple of notes of a slow version of the original theme toward the beginning of the trailer felt so good as a reminder of the first movie.
Didn't care for the main "song" in the trailer though.

Its an entirely rhetorical question, but considering why this sequel got made, I'm wondering why the lead isn't Chinese. Or I'd expect (again not really) that Boyega's character would end like Elba's character for the benefit of a person/crew from another country (read: China). Heck, at MINIMUM, I really hope that the non-"Western" crews don't get punked out really quickly this time.

Boyega was the reason this is getting out of dev hell. He's helping out producing it. I've heard he's also helping funding it with his Star Wars money iirc.

Wait, so this is literally an official self-insert fanfic?

Can you point out a source for that? That's literally the first I'm hearing of it. And unless he's bankrolling the WHOLE thing, it basically got any traction at ALL because of China. It wasn't considered a "flop" but was definitely considered a "disappointment" before the Chinese Box Office returns.

I'm just saying if Hollywood is gonna make a HARD pitch to China, you'd think they'd go with a Chinese lead. But at minimum, like I said, I hope the crew from their strongest market don't get wiped out "as an afterthought" just so the MC can get a big solo moment.

It's just something I've heard online. Not sure if its true or not though but considering if he's a big enough geek for the original Pacific Rim that he is for Star Wars, this'd probably be another passion project.

Boyega is indeed a producer on it, but an interesting wrinkle is that Legendary Pictures' owner is now Wanda Group, a Chinese company. My guess is that Boyega was cast as the lead because he already had Star Wars, which is pretty big worldwide.

Anyway, trailer looks good. I like the Jaegers' designs and it's definitely piling on the spectacle. Boyega also does a decent mini-Elba impression. My one complaint is the choice of song. Yeesh, studios are TERRIBLE at picking songs for trailers

The trailers have not been disappointing at all. I look forward to the sequel.

Though, I'm getting worried with the Chinese assimilation of Hollywood.
