Highly recommend The Third. Since it came out in the fansub era, it got overlooked by a lot of people. Very good show.

Agree about the Third, one of my favorite shows. My recollection was that the dub wasn't too bad either. The tank AI was probably my favorite character

Yeah, I really liked The Third as well.
But what do you mean by "sub era"?

I'd be more excited to see The Third on CR if I didn't already own the series. Nice to see there is interest in the series.
As for El-Hazard, I looked into it and I think I'll pass. I'm going to watch Slayers instead, which I just found out is on Hulu (the original series at least).

I own the original El-Hazard series but don't think I've ever seen more than snippets of Wanderers, so I'm looking forward to that.
And I'm also happy to see The Third being picked up, even if it is only the subbed version. (The dub is actually quite strong.) It's one of a handful of series that I rewatch in its entirety at least once a year and would heartily recommend to anyone. Excellent balance of sci fi action and poetic mysticism led by who I consider to be one of the all-time-great anime heroines. If I had to make a list of my all-time-favorite anime, this one would definitely be on it.

I'm guessing he means "Pre-(legal)streaming fansub era".

Yeah that's what I meant to say. Back when you had to wait weeks for fansubs of less popular shows. How far we've come...

@Key
If you are only familiar with the original El Hazard OVA, I think you will find The Wanderers fun. It does have some familiar characters in markedly different roles and a rather different ending though.

Does the sub for the 3rd still have that annoying announcer to tell you everything going on.. and doesn't shut up? My biggest complaint for that series was the announcer detailing everything going on even though its plain as day, like the audience doesn't have enough brain power to figure it out. Other then that it was on OK series.. not great.

Never saw El Hazard, but I remember loving The Third back in the day. I do seem to remember that the ending wasn't... very conclusive, though. Left a lot of stuff unanswered, IIRC.

Yep, the narrator is in both the dub and sub, and that's one of my two negatives for the series, too. (The other is the way the artistic quality spectacularly tanks in one mid-season episode and one episode near the end.)

Enh, not really. The major existing plot threads were resolved and I felt it had a very fitting cap. There was definitely still room for more story to tell, and I suspect that half or less of the 17 light novels were covered by the animation, but the only real loose ends at the end of the animation were the romantic ones.

Hmm.. The Third seems mildly interesting... I might be interested in trying it out...
