A little late though for the Simpsons to even reference this, right?

Still, remember the old episode where Homers enlists in the navy and the Soviet Union returns? Was that episode censored in Russia?

Well that's extreme

By being culturally late, Simpsons unwittingly becomes topical in international news.

Don't remember the specifics, but I remember him acting like an obnoxious jerk during the service and filming it. 3.5 years (what the prosecuters suggested) is still extreme for disturbing the peace and unjustified, but it was more than playing video games during church. Many countries would have executed him for a similar crime towards their dominant religion.

Wow, Russia didn't kill the guy for playing a game in a church. They clearly deserve a round of applause.

Also, being obnoxious! The nerve! Better rot in jail for third of a decade!

Didn't Trump just recently pass a "religious liberty" law in the US?
Shocked

A headline will say "Man jailed for using phone during church" for clicks, but the meat the incident was he was an outspoken atheist and he decided to make a video in the church saying things like "Im here to catch the rarest Pokemon of all, Jesus.. but Jesus doesn't exist, so that will be hard to do" and making a video pushing atheist views via a phone game while he was in church. The man was hardly some innocent samaritan.

The episode features a smartphone game named "Peekimon Get," a reference to Niantic's Pokémon Go game.

Of course it wasn't a reference to the Japanese tagline called "Pokemon Getto da ze!"
