Both a novel and volume 39 on June 23rd, my birthday can't get any more awesome.
But honestly I'm curious that Berserk hasn't had some sort of LN side story up until now...

The manga is certainly not disappointing, the last 10+ chapters has been more than great, it's just a bloody shame we get like 4/year.

I disagree that they are great or even good. Berserk is supposed to be brutal, dark, surprising and, overall, sick. Latest chapters remind me more of shounens, especially because of the amount of slapstick comedy. Miura (unless someone else is drawing it now under Miura's suggestions, who knows...) even changed the art style, which looks significantly worse. In fact, I didn't even read the latest 2 chapters, simply because I couldn't go through them.

While Berserk's indeed dark, I think people vastly overstate how dark it is. There's always been comedy, even during some of the darkest parts and at this point in the story, there's no real need for the violence and gore of other parts. And it's not as if we didn't get our fill of that in the last arc. Berserk isn't and never was continuously dark. Ironically, this part of the story is a lot darker than people give it credit for, and it's about to get quite serious as we're in the midst of one of the most important events in the entire story, if not the most important. And if developing relations, expanding on the world and characters growing up and reflecting on themselves is shounen, then bring it on.
And aside from one chapter/episode where it was looking rougher than usual, the art is still great. Miura's changed his style because the previous stuff was absolutely [expletive] ridiculous and probably taxing as hell for him to draw (there's also rumours of him using and getting to grips with digital drawing).

Just make it an actual novel, not an LN.

The latest chapter is extremely dark, and it's getting darker.
Btw, I think it's the contrast of light and darkness that makes Berserk so good. often the mood reflects Guts mental state. When he is mad and lonely, most of the subplots are super dark with less comedy and a darker art style. When he is sane and in the company of friends, the opposite stands true.

Well, that's an interesting theory, so I hope they'll get killed xD (at least Isidro, I hate that kid  )
