Since this will clearly be coming out late in the series run, it is obvious that the contest itself is the PR promotion. With no specific skills needed they are likely not expecting much. If it is bad they can post it on the website and let it go like that. If it is actually good it becomes a little extra they can use on the disk release. In the mean time they get a bit of a buzz from contestants.

O,Ho,Ho,Ho! PR for this show is already a disaster with those uniforms. Even if the story turns out OK, I pity the person that tries to seriously get this "job" because there is no good way to convince non-viewers that this show is not a pedophile's dream. Like you say, this stunt is the PR and the joke will be on the unlucky winner...

Well, this event is nothing big, and won't cost the studio much, so even if only one person signs up, they've succeeded.

I am not sorry to deny you of your schadenfreude, since the age of admission into the magic academy depicted in this series is at least 14, there is no connection between this series and pedophiles. To use the word pedophile in connection with this work of fiction is a barbarism.

Of course the best PR possible for this artwork is to hide the uniforms as much as possible.
Maybe just have the main character magical punching stuff with his legs.

Cool.
Nice to know that anime's staff are willing listening to the fans. Is a great PR stunt.
I love the uniforms design, but still we need nekomimi for all girls, nyan.

The suspenders + bare midriff combo is really charming, too. It reminds me of the uniforms seen in Cross Ange.

I'm saying that non-viewers/media will say that. Some already say that anime is porn and since the girl's outfits are patterned on prostitute's wear (according to my daughter), I don't think it a stretch. I myself wouldn't say this since the show has no other trappings of pedophilia.

TBT I would not know the difference between what a prostitute wears to work from what pro models wear at fashion shows (call me fashion deaf), but I do know these designs are similar to outfits in the Cross Ange anime, another series hit with extreme prejudice by a few.

Yes it is, calling it pedophile bait or porn would be no different than calling Nazis the professors at the academy for their military influenced outfits.

That doesn't really help their image among non-fans though.

Looking that this kind of anime are aimed a very specific group of fans, the opinion of non-fans is pretty much irrelevant and the usual fans are used to it. Fans of anime, more if there are fans of fan-service heavy shows, are look upon as perverts from non-fans point of view. And we don't care a bit about that.

I have not read the original light novel and have only seen the anime first two episodes, but so far Akashic Records of Bastard Magical Instructor is far from being on the level of fan service heavy shows like High School DxD or Testament of sister new devil. Heck, we have not seen the appearance of the famous light bars of censorship (which even appeared in at least one episode of shows like last season comedy Gabriel Dropout). Probably someone will mention that in the second episode of Akashic there is an scene where we get a camera pan to one of the girls partially nude breasts, so there is in the second episode of this season Armed Girl's Machiavellism and nobody thinks that series is that kind of show.
In summary I suppose that what I am trying to say that this series is not the new Masou Gakuen HxH (unless it make a U turn in later episodes, which is pretty unlikely because fan service heavy shows clearly state their intentions in the first episode).

You right. Most of fan-service came from the uniforms. The story is more action driven than relying on heavy service (bad choice of word from my part). But i think you will agree that some people thinks, battle magic school = echi anime = lots of fanservice = pervy fans.
This show is very far from borderline anime like Testament of sister or Masou Gakuen HxH .
